At 88, when most people slow down, Inderjit Singh Sidhu steps out with a broom.
Every morning at 6 am, the former IPS officer—once a Deputy Inspector General—walks the streets of Chandigarh, picking up litter with his own hands. Not because it’s his job.
Not because anyone asked him to. But because he couldn’t stand watching his city lose its dignity.
After retirement, Sidhu complained to the authorities. When nothing changed, he chose action.Armed with a bag, he began cleaning alone.
People laughed. Some called him “crazy.” He kept going.
Slowly, something shifted. Neighbours joined in. Family members stepped out.
A solo act of conscience became a community movement.
Chandigarh’s “City Beautiful” found one of its quietest, strongest guardians.“There is no shame in cleaning.
Cleanliness is next to godliness,” Sidhu says simply.
This Republic Day, India honoured him with the Padma Shri in the Unsung Heroes category.
A reminder that ranks retire, uniforms come off, but purpose doesn’t.

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.”

Alexander turned back. Not defeated, but transformed. The journey east ended not with war, but with awe. Some say he was warned by the silent god of the cave. Others say he understood some realms are ruled not by kings, but by eternity.
Aparigraha (not taking what is not one's) is an important principle of Yama in Ashtanga Yoga. These basics still seem strong in Far East.
I saw it in Korea too - I lived in Seoul for 9 months (1994-95).
We once went out for a weekend sightseeing. An Indian colleague left his latest camera on a park bench by mistake & we walked away. A Korean man came running after us for 2 blocks. When we noticed him & stopped, he told us in broken English that we left the camera on a park bench, returned it & left in a hurry with a glow in his face!
I saw other such incidents in Korea, which made me realize that aparigraha & some basic Yoga principles were still deep-rooted in the Korean psyche (at least back then, don't know how much Korea changed now).
Actually, I saw aparigraha deeply rooted in Indian psyche too, when I was growing up in a small Indian town in 1970s & 1980s. But I am afraid greed may have overtaken non-avarice in most quarters in modern India..
India has launched #OperationSindoor — a precise and decisive strike on terror hubs across the border, delivering justice for the innocent lives lost in the #PahalgamTerroristAttack.
Now more than ever, let’s stand united with our armed forces and political leadership.
Sri Mahaswamigalu in this message - https://t.co/zvobo27LVS has urged everyone to take a firm Sankalpa and offer prayers to Sri Narasimha Devaru through Japa, Parayana, and collective devotion — for strength, protection, and Vijaya.

THREAD: The Forgotten Savior of Vijayanagara – Venkatapati Deva Raya!
History tells us that Vijayanagara crumbled post-Talikota, but did you know that one king turned the tide? Meet Venkatapati Deva Raya, the emperor who defied fate!
Something I frequently say. Do you know what was Chatrapati Sambhaji's greatest achievement? By breaking the back of both Mughals and Ottomans irretrievably, he ended the Islamic Golden Age. He was the one who dragged Zebu Langda to Deccan and made his empire bankrupt,
This blatant distortion of history on an official government website is unacceptable. Vijayanagara was not the aggressor—the Deccan sultanates united with the sole aim of destroying a flourishing Hindu empire. Whitewashing this brutality and subtly justifying the beheading of Rama Raya is a grave insult to our heritage. Who approved this narrative, and why is the government allowing such misleading content? This needs urgent correction. @monidipadey
Today, Pausha Bahula Dvadashi with Moola Nakshatra, marks the birth anniversary of one of Bharat's greatest emperors, Shri Krishna Deva Raya. Ruler of the vast Vijayanagara Empire, he excelled in military strategy, arts, architecture, and literature. He restored numerous temples destroyed by Islamic forces, abolished the oppressive Jizya tax, and ended violent raids on Hindu settlements. His capital, Vijayanagara, became a beacon of Dharma, with temples dedicated to Anantashayana, Krishna, Ranganatha, Prasanna Virupaksha, and more. Through decisive victories in battles like Raichur, Bidar, and Bijapur, he curtailed the dominance of Islamic sultanates in southern India. Revered as the "Destroyer of Turks," he reestablished Dharma across Bharatvarsha, earning a timeless place in history. The Āmuktamālyada, his 16th-century epic, remains a poetic masterpiece, celebrating the divine love and union of Shri Ranganayaka (Vishnu) and Andal. On his birth anniversary, we honor this illustrious emperor who upheld and protected the sacred land of Bharat.
@tskrishnan Language warriors need to pay attention to these stories. Also Kumara Kamapanna who saved Madurai temple from the sultan. We all are Hindus first.....Hindu culture is what binding this Country. Then comes the language.
