Red Thakkali alert for KTCC (Chennai) during the early morning hours.

The Red Thakkali storms are set to move into Chennai City, bringing much needed rains and a refreshing change in weather. Wake up to a bang of thunder and pleasant conditions across the city.

The storm system that formed near Visakhapatnam yesterday night has now travelled down to the Tamil Nadu–Andhra border and is currently taking aim at Chennai. Since the system has been moving over the sea for most of its journey, it has managed to retain its strength and moisture content.

Yesterday, Chennai AP (Meenambakkam) recorded 41.2°C, making it the hottest place in Tamil Nadu. This intense heat pattern is expected to persist for another four days. However, this “Red Thakkali” storm could provide the much needed respite from the scorching temperatures, at least for today morning, with chances of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and cooler weather across parts of Chennai and its suburbs.

Another hot day ahead for Chennai and suburbs as KTCC continues to remain the hottest part of Tamil Nadu. Weather models indicate while places closer to the coast may benefit from weak sea breeze further in land and suburbs of Chennai may see weak sea breeze influence keeping the temperatures high. Heatwave Warning for Coastal AP as many places likely to see searing conditions. Temperatures may touch 43 / 44°C with isolated 45°C over Coastal AP along with parts of North Telangana.
