Home Buyers created storm at Jantar Mantar against decade-Long Red Tape Struggle for Metro, Registry and possession of flats.

Thousands of Home Buyers from Greater Noida west reached jantar mantar using multiple Buses from many societies to protest and raise their demand heard for Metro, Registry, Possession of flats and random wierd decisions by IRP.

The ambitious Aqua Metro extension project to Greater Noida West, spearheaded by the NOIDA Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), has been entangled in bureaucratic red tape for over a decade. Despite the initial preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) by DMRC, state government approval, and endorsement by the Public Investment Board (PIB) of the central government, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has recently rejected the proposal, leaving the fate of the project uncertain.

The situation has raised questions about the numerous hurdles the project must overcome and how many more years it will take to see completion. Despite the recommendations from the Amitabh Kant Committee aimed at resolving issues related to registry and possession, the authorities appear nonchalant, leaving thousands of homebuyers in limbo.

Efforts to find a resolution have been ongoing for decades, with multiple meetings, continuous agitation, and a year-long protest at Ek Murti Chowk yielding no positive results. The recent gathering of thousands of buyers from various societies in Greater Noida West at Jantar Mantar underscores the urgency of their demand to kick-start metro construction in the area.

The protest, led by the NEFOWA, aims to draw attention to the need for immediate action on the Amitabh Kant Committee report. The report suggests expediting the registry of flats and completing stalled projects to address the concerns of frustrated homebuyers.

Abhishek Kumar, President of NEFOWA, expressed frustration, stating, "The protest will continue to intensify as we witness one approval after another, followed by sudden rejections for the metro project."

Mihir Gautam, Convener of the Registry and Possession Movement, lamented the apparent disconnect between the government and the plight of homebuyers, saying, "It is hard to believe that such a popular government is unable to understand the plight of lakhs of homebuyers who are being extorted by authorities and builders."

The rally at Jantar Mantar is a plea for urgent action from both the State and Central governments to fulfill this long-standing demand for a metro extension in Greater Noida West. The citizens hope that their collectie voice will finally bring about the serious efforts required to resolve the persisting issues.

I recently took a 3-hour session for #JournalismAI's Small #Newsroom APAC cohort on AI for news. We examined challenges in balancing AI's potentials & realities, making decisions, and more. 👇

We focused on the hard truths of the news industry—like its commoditization, low ARPU, and a history of decisions that sometimes hinder differentiation. All these factors underline the difficulty of change. We're forced to ride the wave of BigTech's cycle of hype, mass adoption, and commoditization. This strategy often results in short-term gains but may lead to long-term drawbacks and further commoditization. It's a tricky balance!

When it comes to the AI wave, many newsrooms are tempted to leverage systems like OpenAI. However, the cost of training, integrating AI, and the impending SEO down-ranking of AI content, makes us question the economic viability of this path.

The rise in #subscriptions models provides lessons for adopting new tech. Jumping on a wave without deep consideration can reveal limitations later. Thus, evaluating the investment size and potential upside before betting on a wave is crucial.

In prepping for the AI wave, I recommend taking a compute-heavy or compute-light path. The former needs a top-heavy team that can scale AI at low cost, while the latter should focus on simplifying systems and outsourcing non-core functions.

For compute-light newsrooms, AI investments should aim to build a competitive edge on the demand-side. This can range from a unique visual style, audience engagement tools, or bots for paywalled content. Use AI to stand out!

Compute-heavy newsrooms, on the other hand, can automate many functions with AI, freeing up bandwidth for going up the value chain. They can also use AI to deliver content in multiple formats to optimize algorithmic distribution gains.

Ezra Eeman's AI implementation framework - Automate, Augment, Transform - is insightful. The goal is to leverage AI in tasks that can be fully automated or augment human tasks, while transforming the newsroom for a more efficient future.
