I have decided to leave math academia.

Not because of burnout, the academic job market, or a loss of love for mathematics. Surprisingly, it is because of how much mathematics I could do with LLMs over the last few months.

For most of my life, pursuing mathematics felt like the obvious choice. It gave me a sense of purpose, rooted in the search for hidden truths in God’s Book.

Over the past few months, that conviction has been shaken. With LLMs, I could get several breakthroughs on problems I care deeply about and had worked on for years during my PhD. This progress might have taken years of my academic life if not for LLMs.

This could have strengthened my conviction that mathematics was my calling. Instead, it undermined it. With each passing week, my role in the discovery loop seemed to grow smaller.

What made mathematics meaningful to me was never just the final answer. It was the struggle: months or years of exploration, failed approaches, and deep thought before a hidden structure finally became visible. That struggle gave me a sense that the result was truly mine. Prompting my way to answers, without the struggle that once defined the process, no longer felt like the same vocation. The answer might be just as beautiful, but it did not feel earned in the same way.

I now believe that we are rapidly approaching a world in which most answers from God’s Book will be only a prompt away. Once I truly internalized that possibility, dedicating much of my life to finding those answers slightly earlier no longer felt as meaningful as it once had.

But one problem kept bothering me: How do we know the oracle is right?

Intelligence (and hence the amount of math papers) is becoming abundant and cheaper by the day. Trust is not.

The proofs produced by these systems can be highly sophisticated, and their errors can be extremely subtle. Determining whether an apparent breakthrough was actually correct sometimes took me days. Until it is verified, a beautiful proof is not different from slop.

That gap drew me toward formal verification and eventually toward formalizing math proofs in Lean, including proofs of several longstanding conjectures and Erdős problems discovered with the help of LLMs. I began to see verification as a central intellectual bottleneck. Intelligence is useful only when its outputs can be trusted.

So I am leaving math academia. I am shifting my attention from discovering answers to building systems that can certify them.

I am very excited to be joining @PramaanaLabs to work on this challenge. Over the next few years, I hope to help build a future in which increasingly powerful systems are not merely intelligent, but provably correct and reliable across problems far beyond mathematics.

Watch as children make friends and break social media, gaming & substance addiction. They will read and learn. Pick up sports. Build social skills and self-confidence.

Observe as parents regain bandwith and time for intentional and present parenting.

Young people will observe the lives of mentors and learn to love and know Christ.

Collaborations will emerge. Loneliness will reduce as people find multi-generational friendships and families.

This is my vision of the modern church. A living breathing entity in the heart of urban communities.

This reminds me of a preacher’s comment I heard: “As a woman, you need to have money and ensure you’re working and bringing something to the table because when a man wants to hit you or do something terrible, he can’t because he knows what you’re doing for the household.”

While I believe everyone should have a source of income by a certain age, I disagree with the reasoning that equates financial independence with protection against abuse. This perspective is deeply flawed; no amount of money or status can prevent someone from being abused.

The focus should be on the fundamental truth that no one deserves to be abused, regardless of their economic situation. Everyone should feel safe and valued in their relationships, and safety shouldn’t be dependent on financial contributions.

Hello Yemi, the last time we spoke you were an atheist. I believe that might still be true. I wrote this to Christians. However, I am responding to this because it is a matter I believe my brothers and sisters would benefit to know- and only this because I must redirect my efforts into classifying other questions with my team so they can be answered with more dexterity than this.

My biblical response encompasses three things first, and then the final.
1.) What is a soul?
2.)The biblical sovereignty of God.
3.)The condition of man.

Each of these will be built up by biblical cases, drawing from apparent consequences of these truths, and leading to a safely drawn biblically- postured response to you. This is a long read, should you truly desire an answer- and I believe you do- I hope you take the time to read it.

1.)What is a soul?
“And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” -Genesis 2:7
As clearly seen, the soul is that which is produced when man’s spirit(the breath of life) enters the body. Man became a soul when his spirit came in contact with his body. So says the word, and this is all we need to know. I must mention that certain words are interchangeable or directly related as a function of the “soul” in the bible. Amongst them include: 'will' (Psalm 27:12), 'intellect'(Lam 3:20), 'emotion'(2 Sam 5:8),and 'being' as seen in Genesis 2:7 above. Simply put, a body with the breath of life becomes a living soul.

2.)The Biblical sovereignty of God.
What any creative leader will see when they read Genesis 1 is that Elohim is creating systems. Every word is weaving a functioning system that can survive without His direct input. He makes two great lights and appoints them for different times. He needs not touch the sun or the moon, they simply do as installed within a system. He tells man to “be fruitful and multiply.”
Their obedience to this charge is within their own volition but also within a larger system that God has created- namely the reproductive system (Genesis 1:28,  as shown in Genesis 5).

It means the instructions were not only for the creation of the planet and all within it , but their sustenance and continued existence. Every ecological organization is actually mentioned by God in creation and at each level, He is creating systems. See Genesis 1 & 2. God, in creating systems, created once so he would never have to create again. And so, he rested.

This ideal is so central to the Word,  that the next time God says He “formed” a man, even that is within the system He has created- a womb:

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.”- Jer 1:5

2a.) Unlike Genesis, “forming” in Jeremiah is no more happening out of dust, but inside the womb. God changed the materials needed to make a new man by creating a system to make new humans. And God is ‘forming man’, not actively out of dust- because we know He has rested- but within His system of procreation as supported by Genesis 5. He can lay claim to ‘forming’ because “all things are created in Him, through Him, and for Him” (Col 1:16-17), just as it is correct to say “He makes the rain fall on the just and the unjust” in Matthew 5:45 because he made the system for rain.

2b.) By all indications, all of man is formed in the womb. (see also Psalm 139:13). For one, the bible does not say only one part of him is formed. For another, we know the soul cannot be formed without a body ((we need spirit and body for a living soul) so without any doubt, the soul is ‘formed’ when the body is made-which is not in the sperm, or an egg, but as a zygote. “In the womb” says the word. All of man is ‘formed’ in the womb.

It’s that simple. But I add one final part to form a conclusion.

3.)The spiritual condition of man.
Romans 5:12-19 begins to tell us that sin and death reigned from Adam to his descendants. ‘Sin and death’- enmity with God- is a spiritual condition that was passed down from Adam to all that were born of him. This means, conception is not only physical, but of spiritual proportions. We look like our parents physically, and look like Adam spiritually, just as our parents do.
It means that the state of the spirit is passed down, too- conceived when one is conceived; “formed” when one is “formed".

“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.” -Psalm 51:5

The nature of sin is a spiritual reality. If in Psalm 51, man is conceived in sin, it means conception is as spiritual as it is physical, because a man's body isn't sinful; his spirit is. This means the spirit is present at conception.

Both spirit and body are conceived at conception. And what is the soul?

Stop the habit of buying houses in Abuja and Lagos except you are buying it for investment to sell later

Pump all your monies into buying houses in that country you're staying.

Your kids have an 80% chance of not coming back to stay in Nigeria. So all the houses you are accumulating here in Nigeria at the expense of their comfort there, will go to waste.

Buy the houses in the country you're in. It will be easier for your kids to be a part of it even when you die. Also, stop the habit of inconveniencing yourself abroad where you live to build houses back home

The house you build back home, you may live in it 2 weeks in a year. Invest more money in your comfort over there where you live. Life is for the living.

My dad built a very huge home in the village, the house is empty today. no one is in it. None of his kids want it. he himself does not even want it again. that was a total waste of money. that cash in Vanguard VOO or a New York or London real estate business would have yielded close to a million dollars today.

Grow up!
Stop doing things because, its tradition or culture.

If you didn't have that, a great goal is to aspire to provide that for your own family.

Extremely cruel to humiliate a mother in front of her daughter like this. Even worse that this was recorded and posted on social media.

My mother used to sweep people’s houses and gutters in 2016. It hurt too much that I could do nothing financially to stop her. I often insisted on going with her, just to help fetch the water she needed so we could finish quicker and get back home before daylight. I didn’t want anyone to see us. The poverty that pushes one to hide their labour in the dark is a painful one.

Yes, that child should not be working. But more than outrage, what she and her mother deserve is compassion. The only humane response is to help.

If no one has done this already, I would like to take full responsibility for the girl’s education through university. I hope this eases their burden in some way. These are incredibly hard times.

Our Privilege blinds us in ways we’ll never truly understand.
