Dharavi Reimagined with prioritising citizens, livelihoods and environmental sustainability

Chaired a review meeting on the Dharavi Redevelopment Project at Sahyadri Guest House, in Mumbai, today.

Emphasised that the residents of Dharavi must remain at the centre of the redevelopment project. Directed timely completion of the project and reiterated that the redevelopment should be carried out on the lines of world-class housing projects in Singapore and Hong Kong.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is not just about constructing buildings, but an initiative aimed at the holistic development of Dharavi residents. Also directed to preserve the area’s industrial and social ecosystem. Reiterated that while commercial development is part of the project, public welfare and the interests of citizens must remain the highest priority.

Noted that Dharavi’s 'Kumbharwada' is an important cultural and tourism asset. Directed that suitable solutions be taken through consultations with respective people to preserve its unique identity. Also instructed for the implementation of the 'Nature Park' under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Directed that a special cell be established to ensure the speedy issuance of all necessary permits for this project under a single roof.

Expressed confidence that coordinated efforts across departments would ensure timely completion of the project, transforming Dharavi and strengthening Mumbai’s stature as a world-class city.
