Muse by Meta may be the best new product of the year

- character design is brilliant. cute = trustworthy. customization is easy too.
- clean, simple, beautiful. love the MD file visual design
- REALLY FAST. and executes all the cutting edge agentic flows (esp with browsers) well
- amazing design choices everywhere: thinking, permissions, etc out of the way on sidebar, ideas, side chats, feed & goals are lovely new concepts, pinned sites on left nav
- great choice in initial use cases and connectors: health, 1pass, opentable, productivity, finances, etc. gets people right to a delightful moment quickly
- native instagram and other meta product integrations are a real edge, no one else has it. can make a dent in the market with this alone
- security emphasis at launch was brilliant given real concerns with growing agent capabilities

but
- everyday people don't know what md means in soul.md etc
- opening is a little stale and impersonal. default the agent's vibe to the user based on age/location - funnier, more playful without going overboard on how much it knows
- the feed idea is brilliant but content feels irrelevant to me so far
- not clear when to use a side chat vs the main one

its early, but I think this is the best new consumer product release from a big company I've ever seen.

everything from design to speed and performance are absolutely top notch.

but what really stands out is the calculated beta meta took introducing new patterns here that ultimately paid off.

it feels like the team synthesized 2 years of experimentation in UX paradigms across the industry into a few extremely legible and intuitive features.

goals in particular is brilliant because it not only helps the agent figure out how to help the user but it also helps the user figure out themselves. ultimately the reason anyone uses ANY productivity tool is to become a better person of themselves. better is usually across a few areas that Muse nails explicitly.

social media has been controversial in its impact on peoples lives. I know Meta has been pushing for "time well spent" for a long time.

this may finally be the app that truly changes the lives of billions of people around the world.

This one integration saved me a bunch of money. The obvious - duplicate subscriptions, forgotten and not used.

On a more complex note it found me a voucher in my email from a cancelled hotel I had not used, and negotiated with the company to get it refunded to my card.

Simple stuff that accumulates in our lives over time. More time back.

We knew early the bedrock of this product would need to be security and privacy. An agent like Muse needs to be trustworthy.

We've done serious first principles thinking here, and worked hard to harden the stack on all these dimensions.

First impressions: free and fast! Like really really fast, like 5-10x faster than Grok Bot/Instinct.

They've decided to do a single chat, with temporary "side chats." I personally hate going single-threaded, but I think it is 100% the right product choice for their userbase.

Their ideas page is better than any assistant page I've used, which I think will help users new to an AI assistant.

In general the UX feels good to use. I think a lot of thought went into this and it feels fast and lightweight. Very bullish!
