Indeed! To conflate a Rasgulla with an Idli is not just a culinary error; it is a profound cosmological misunderstanding.
To begin with, the comparison is practically a biological impossibility. She is comparing chhena (the delicate, squeaky, pristine curd of milk) with a meticulously fermented batter of parboiled rice and black gram (urad dal). Their compositions are from entirely different kingdoms. One is an airy, spongy lattice designed to trap light sugar syrup; the other is a dense, wholesome, steamed matrix of complex carbohydrates and proteins. Their taste, consistency, structural integrity, and existential purpose share absolutely nothing in common.
But more important, her attempt to dismiss the Idli as merely a blank canvas for sugar syrup does a grave disservice to what is arguably one of the greatest engineering marvels of the culinary world.
The Idli is not a mere "bland cake." It is a masterclass in biotechnology. To achieve the perfect Idli is to balance the delicate microflora of wild fermentation over a cold night, resulting in a steamed cloud that is a triumph of gut health, lightness, and nutritional balance. It is a savoury monolith of South Indian culinary genius, perfectly engineered to absorb the sharp tang of a well-spiced sambar or the fiery depth of a molaga-podi (gunpowder) paste infused with cold-pressed sesame oil or nutritious melted ghee.
To suggest an Idli would even consent to being drowned in sugar syrup is to fundamentally misunderstand its dignity.
If this lady finds Rasgullas overrated, argue that on the merits of their sponginess or sweetness. But please, leave the noble, perfectly fermented, steamed majesty of the Idli out of your dessert-table polemics, ma'am!
@BasitSubhani I do. Half of the series was played in India. Saw it live on TV. Fast paced action, charming penalty corner rituals, relentless Sohail Abbas, genius of Dhanraj Pillai, all-timers on both sides. India won Asiad Gold the same year. Got hooked to Hockey & have been a fan ever since
Just a small anecdote of Sachin Tendulkar’s Irani Trophy debut on his birthday:
November 1989, Wankhede Stadium.
5 selectors sat in the stands with notebooks & doubts, watching a 16 year old boy try to force his way onto a plane to Pakistan. Sachin Tendulkar had already shone through the Ranji season, 583 runs showing he was ready. But the men in charge preferred patience. They wanted one more look.
Irani Trophy gave it to them. Rest of India against Delhi. Tendulkar made 39 in first innings. Promising, but not the hundred that would have made selection automatic. So the 2nd innings became an audition he could not afford to fail.
What happened next was less a cricket match & more a rescue mission. Tendulkar walked in at number 4. Scorecard around him read like a horror story. Not a single teammate managed to reach double figures after he arrived (in fact, no one crossed 6 runs). Wickets fell like dominoes. By the time 9th wicket went down, he was stranded in the 80s, the hundred slipping away with every departing batter.
Enter Gursharan Singh. Rest of India vice captain had fractured his finger in first innings, his right hand wrapped in plaster, his match effectively over. Then Raj Singh Dungarpur walked over & told him to pad up. Not to save the game, but to save the boy’s hundred.
Gursharan walked out one handed. Tendulkar, already heading back to the pavilion assuming the injured man would not bat, stopped in his tracks. Gursharan looked at him & said, “Tera hundred kar ke jayenge.”
Tendulkar smiled, took strike & told Gursharan he would handle Maninder Singh himself. They added 36 runs for last wicket & Sachin scored 103*.
A week later, he was on a flight to Karachi. Selectors had seen enough. Sometimes greatness needs a century. Sometimes it needs a teammate with a broken finger willing to stand in the firing line so the story can continue.
@sidin Super interesting. India-Bangladesh border had 100+ enclaves including the world's only 3rd order enclave - India inside BD inside India inside BD! Huge headache for the administration and painful for the residents of these enclaves, the matter got resolved as recently as 2015
@banglani Is the trouble here that Mygate is trying to make money? Those who find the fee% high will switch to cheque/NEFT. Fair to assume Mygate has figured the sweet spot on how much people are willing to pay for convenience. Even if they haven't yet, it seems logical that they will
The flyover does not “suddenly narrow.” The transition from 4 lanes to 2 lanes is not a design flaw, but is based on available road width constraints, and future network planning.
As per planning, the flyover has been designed with two lanes for Bhayander East and future connecting two lanes for Bhayander West. Since the Bhayander East arm comes first along the alignment, the 4-lane configuration presently transitions into 2 lanes. The remaining two lanes on the outer side are planned as part of the future extension towards Bhayander West across the Western Railway line.
Up to Golden Nest Circle, where five major roads merge and traffic volume is high, a 2+2 lane flyover integrated with the Metro, along with slip roads on both sides, has been provided to disperse traffic effectively.
Beyond the junction, towards Bhayander East, the available right of way reduces as per DP. Accordingly, a 1+1 lane flyover with dedicated up and down ramps has been constructed along the median to provide uninterrupted movement towards Railway Phatak Road.
This design enables smooth crossing of one of the busiest junctions in the Mira–Bhayander region while accommodating on-ground constraints.
Provision has been kept for future widening, wherein the outer side of the flyover on both carriageways will be extended by an additional 1+1 lane to ensure improved east–west traffic continuity. The proposal is currently at the planning stage and will be taken up in coordination with MBMC, after obtaining approvals from the competent authorities.
At present, the flyover has been designed primarily for traffic dispersal and congestion reduction in the Mira–Bhayander area. Necessary safety measures have been incorporated, including rumble strips, delineators, adequate signage, retro-reflective tags, directional boards, and anti-crash barriers.
Traffic police guidance is being actively sought for any additional vehicular safety measures prior to opening the flyover for public use.

@keylimepie2000 Pretty much everyone who uses first principles means to say best principles = first principles + best practices. So if we park the semantics, it's much like the prepone v/s advance debate. As long as the listener understands what is being said, the choice of phrase is irrelevant
@jeremykauffman Played around with OLPC devices back in 2008. Absolutely trash on the usability front. The makers were clueless, unlikely that they had spoken or even met with a single potential user. Hype around the transformational potential was mind blowing. I too was carried away for a while
@banglani Heart of a VC may be in the right place, but it needs to show in nos. Will be useful to know cases where VC chose a dividend based outcome. If most VC exits are via companies which lose money even after IPO (10Y+, near monopoly, access to max capital), Nitin's inference has merit
As the people- young and old- were fitted with the famous Jaipur Foot by a visiting team of experts from the Bhagawan Mahaveer Vikalang Sahayata Samiti, (BMVSS) Jaipur, Rajasthan, India assisted by specialists from Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Health of Guyana it was an emotional moment as tears flowed and absolute happiness was visible on the faces of all those who received a new hope and confidence to move ahead in life.
It was a dream come true for the people who were beginning their new life and a new future. It was also a new beginning for teams India-Guyana and India-CARICOM.
A promise kept, a commitment fulfilled.
During the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, Hon’ble PM
Shri Narendra Modi had announced that India will collaborate with CARICOM in providing artificial limbs to persons with disabilities in the Caribbean region as a mark of our friendship and people-centric diplomacy.
Today, an Indian company, M/s Kalpataru Projects International Limited collaborated with the Ministry of Health of Guyana and the CARICOM Secretariat, with support from the High Commission of India in Guyana, to fulfill that commitment. It was a new dawn, a new beginning and a new chapter in India-CARICOM partnership.
@bhavyaroar@wholetruthfood@twitellectual Which part of this convinces you that this is safe for you or any of your dear ones to eat? Why would anyone give you something free when someone else would willingly pay for the same thing?
