@BeBurks13 The pandemonium of uncertainty has really opened the flood gates to alternative methods/ideas, telework opportunities, and by the way how in the heck will they convert 43 residential courses to an online platform in two weeks without properly training faculty and staff.
#leu New literacy is rapidly and continuously evolving and the internet is the vehicle for disseminating new technology for new social practices. It helps to also keep social distancing 😃 #tosoon#edu800spring20
@DetCmu I’m old school...this symbol # the“hashtag” is a “number” sign to me. It‘s also a pound sign. Could be a start of a good Tic-Tac-Toe game or maybe it‘s a OCTOTHORP!! Hmmmm.. You’re right the way we convey digital literacy has rapidly changed over the years. #edu800spring20
@JeniferBen6 That‘s a great point Jen!! I forgot that social media platforms have that capability and analytic to perform polls and surveys. #edu800spring20
#Coiro Hmmm! Other than pulling information from readily available sources. What would be some implication for young people-as the article stated, ”doing their thing” socially on the internet? #edu800spring20
#knobel#edu800spring20 Stated in the article “Meaningful expression and cultural artifacts can be shared with the click of a mouse and as extensively as one chooses via digital networks.” ??? Do memes help convey a message, inform others, or used for a good laugh?
#Deschryver Knowledge transfer was the hype educators explored to determine if learning occurred, but had minimum adaptation. As Dr D. expressed, integrating the need to repurpose idea as a determinant for learning could be a practical method of assuming if a student “GOT IT”!!
#Deschryver “As people expect to have access to information anytime, anywhere, they do not feel as if they need to remember it”. This phenomena happened with my children. #child, “Why should I remember important dates and events in history, I’ll just google it. #edu800spring20
#Knobel I guess my mom was wrong video games do not rot your brain. Studies show how the video game itself acts as a feedback system by providing guided tutorials, onscreen tips for increasing proficiency, and sequencing learning (Gee, 2013; Hayes & Duncan, 2012). #edu800spring20
@elaroom101 Gamification is unexplored. Army Recruiters noticed teenagers spending majority of their time online and changed their recruitment efforts to online video games. Recruiters strategies is go where the action is and build relationship. #edu800spring20 Savvy
Let me explain... if teachers do not know the latest or greatest in technology or literacies, then how will they fully engage in new literacies practices.
#Coiro As an implication for Teachers, the article stated that teachers need to be “fully engaged in new literacies practices.” I’m not necessary keen to that statement. Teacher needs to be professionally developed and introduced to new digital media strategies. #edu800spring20
#Coiro Ultimately, the goal for “new literacies” is to prepare “students as best we can for a world in which there are few constants“(p.101). But in reality we need to prepare our students as future leaders in a complex and competitive information age. #edu800spring20
#Mills With changing social environments students are addicted to technologies like Snapchat, YouTube, and facebook(the articles mentioned MySpace). They are the literacy norm to sparking interest in learning new stuff as well as cultural diversification. #edu800spring20
#mills Multiliteracy an approach to pedagogy where technology can be combined with visual and audio modes of communication to construct a new language to communicate. No wonder Memes are so popular!! Do you think texting and speaking are things in the past? #edu800spring20
#mill The author coined, “digital turn as a pun on Gee’s social turn.” How do one authenticate the internet when its flooded with digital media that affect our perception, potentially change behaviors, and eventually we either perceive it as fake news or reality? #edu800spring20
@JeniferBen6 Jen, great word choice. “Cultivate” For some teachers new literacies are learned on the fly. The mantra “figure it out as it goes” is the new norm. How do teacher increase momentum or encourage/motivate learners during this paradigm shift to an online environment?
@DetCmu Wendy, I would say all of the above. New literacy could be the way we navigate, intepret, evaluate, communicate in an online environment. Emojis in my opinion could be considered new literacy.
#Leu Since the nature of literacy is continuously changing the authors shaped a new theory known as Dual-Level. One levels is lower case (new literacies) and the other is upper case (New Literacies). The change only required an upper case and lower case. Hmmm. #edu800spring20
