From Prof Mohamed Rafi about his teacher

Remembering Prof. Rajkumar Edwin sir on his Death Anniversary 11 th August

Excellent medicine teacher who inspired me to took medicine .voracious reader until his death former HOD medicine. TVMC

He treated me like his son , whose son Prof. Ravi Edwin my MBBS class mate.

Long live his memory.

Remembering Legend. . This incident happened in 1997, shortly before his retirement at the end of September.

One day, during his last few undergraduate teaching classes, I attended a bedside case presentation. Then i was first year MD pg student in the 4 th Medical unit The students were presenting a case of decompensated chronic liver disease (cirrhosis).

During the clinical discussion the presenting student described palmar erythema as one of the clinical findings. But when we actually looked at the patient’s palms, the palmar erythema was not convincing.

Professor RJE asked the student:
“Have you noticed palmar erythema on both hands?”

The student examined both palms again and said:
“Sir, I can see it only on the left hand.”

Professor JRE looked at the student and, with his characteristic humour, asked the patient
“எப்பா… காலையில என்ன பல்பொடி வச்சு தேச்ச?”

The patient replied:
“கோபால் பல்பொடி , சார்… கோபால் பல்பொடி வச்சு தேச்சேன்!”

Everyone laughed.

Professor JRE immediately pointed out that the apparent unilateral palmar erythema was not a manifestation of liver disease at all—it was most likely due to the substance the patient had applied to his hand.
