Strengthening community–security collaboration in Kilifi through dialogue and coordination. 🤝🌍
The @NCTC_Kenya convened community leaders, members of the Kilifi County Engagement Forum (CEF), and national and local administrators to advance early warning systems, build trust, and strengthen coordinated responses under the National Strategy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NSPCVE). 🚨🕊️
Youth and Women for Peace and Sustainable Development (YOWPSUD) participated in the forum, reaffirming its commitment to community-driven prevention approaches. Through its work in youth empowerment, women’s leadership, and community resilience, including initiatives such as Mwanamke Imara and youth mentorship programs, YOWPSUD continues to support grassroots early warning, strengthen dialogue between communities and security actors, and contribute to the implementation of the County Action Plan on PCVE in Kilifi.
The forum highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in building sustainable peace, preventing radicalization, and strengthening resilience within communities.

Day 2 of the Mwanamke Imara Learning Exchange in Kilifi brought together Security and Justice actors, counselors, mediators, and community leaders to reflect on the critical role women play in preventing vulnerabilities to violent extremism.
One of the most powerful aspects of the session was the sharing of lived experiences from the community. Participants reflected on past situations where women played a key role in protecting their children and communities from radicalization, but also acknowledged moments where lack of awareness, information, or support systems unintentionally made young people more vulnerable.
These honest reflections highlighted the urgent need to strengthen women’s awareness, leadership, and participation in Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) mechanisms. Women are often the first to notice behavioral changes within families and communities, placing them in a unique position to detect early signs of vulnerability and intervene before risks escalate.

#MwanamkeImara program also aligns with key national, regional, and global frameworks that promote women’s participation in peace and security. These include Kenya’s @NCTC_Kenya National Strategy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NSPCVE 2025–2030), the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, and the @UN_OCT framework, which emphasize inclusive and gender-responsive prevention approaches. At the continental level, the initiative contributes to the vision of @_AfricanUnion Agenda 2063 for peaceful and secure societies, while advancing @SDGs Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 16 on gender equality and strong institutions.
The Mwanamke Imara initiative also draws from the knowledge and capacity-building efforts of global PCVE institutions such as Hedayah and the International Centre of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE), reinforcing the importance of evidence-based and community-driven prevention approaches.
Through this program, Mwanamke Imara continues to empower women as leaders, advocates, and frontline actors in building resilient communities and shaping sustainable peace and security solutions.
