Jason Arday has resigned. Yet the Baroness and Professors who appointed him, and the Sirs, Dames, and Lords who rushed to defend him while accusing his critics of racism, remain in their positions with the drawbridge still up. The CEO of a company embroiled in a scandal often resigns even if they did not personally commit the wrongdoing, because they're accountable for the company's failures. But those who made and celebrated a decision that ultimately damaged the reputation of a fantastic university – a jewel of both the UK and academia more broadly – face no comparable accountability. They retain their positions, tenure and honours.

@policywishes Fine if everyone started from the same point, but they don’t. I do believe that some allowance has to be made to reflect the reality of talented people from less advantaged groups. Their contribution and success would otherwise be missed and we’d all be poorer for that.

@Oldboatie Massively. And I don’t really him - he seems a run of the mill chancer. But his enablers and supporters, who aren’t stupid and must have known they were defending the indefensible, should look at their positions. Particularly the Master of Jesus, who would have known all.

One last thing. I think that, having belatedly done the honourable thing, we should leave Arday alone for him to fade into obscurity.

We shouldn't allow the academics and managers who promoted him as a PR exercise, then threw him under the bus, to get away with it.

The FND field has ongoing discussions about proper diagnosis and risk of misdiagnosis. There are publications on it. Hard to know that when you aren’t a clinician or in the field which is fine, but let’s stop acting like clinicians don’t care about misdiagnosis. It’s not true.
