@RepJimmyPanetta Rep. Panetta doesn’t understand the SCOTUS decision, but has the right solution. Congress established a new status— “TPS.” When Congress created the new status, it limited court jurisdiction over the status. It’s not for SCOTUS to ignore the law. It’s up to Congress to change it.
@RepLoisFrankel Rep. Frankel doesn’t understand the SCOTUS decision. Congress established a new status— “TPS.” When Congress creates a new status, it may limit court jurisdiction over the status. If you don’t believe that SCOTUS is bound by the law, perhaps you shouldn’t be in Congress.
@cereralischill@TBestig@RichardLamondin The real issue is jurisdiction. Congress said no court has jurisdiction to hear a case regarding denial of TPS. SCOTUS was enforcing the statute as written. Simple.
@LewisHoffm86360 It is simple. Congress said no court has jurisdiction to hear a case regarding denial of TPS. Do you believe SCOTUS should listen to Congress (or not)?
@GovPritzker You misread the decision. Congress said, in passing the TPS statute, that judicial review is barred. No jurisdiction means what it says—no court has jurisdiction to review a denial of TPS. If you want SCOTUS to ignore Congress, say so.
Did Congress intend for Temporary Protected Status to last for 14-16 years? If not, then SCOTUS is enforcing the law by implementing the will of Congress.
🚨BREAKING: In a 6-3 decision, The U.S. Supreme Court sides with the Trump administration in ending Temporary Protected Status for 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians.
The drone attack by the IRGC on the Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged containership, is an attack on a non-combatant civilian target. IMO it warrants a U.S. attack on Iran’s transmission lines, to shut off the power to Tehran.
@RoKhanna@elonmusk Defamation isn’t free, and you don’t escape it by challenging the defamed victim to a “debate.” You screwed up. Issue an apology and cut your damages.
@atensnut The NYT v Sullivan “actual malice” standard is rigid for public figures, but from what I’ve seen (so far) it looks like Elon can meet it. The Speech & Debate Clause Immunity would not protect him either. I think the congressman has made a HUGE mistake.
