@ManyYearsYoung @TroyWood01 @TheEconomist Can you cite a source for this, or direct us to some reading or webpage, or is this another bit of annecdotal data? Spelling and reading are two sides of the same coin and when taught appropriately (not just the way we learned), kids excel at both.
@ManyYearsYoung@TheEconomist Ah, yes. The classic "my personal experience > the consensus of experts and peer-reviewed research." I was very successful learning w/ the sight method too. But many brains *cannot* learn reading that way. Use your superior reading skills to look into that.
@microcenter When I need an update on my laptop repair (2 wks now), send a text & the reply says someone will get back to me “shortly,” what is your definition of shortly? Because it’s been over 48 hrs & you’ve made sure there is no other way to reach someone. #customerservice
@profkc Not yet, but the day isn't over. Although I should note that I did once miss a thesis chapter deadline in my MA program because a ferret spilled a glass of water on my keyboard. My advisor rightfully never let me live it down.
My favorite part of teaching is when I get 24 emails between 8pm-6am for a midnight deadline. File corruptions. Dead grandparents. Dog peed on the Chromebook. It's all covered. #onlineteaching#academictwitter#academicchatter
My child is 1 of the 66% (that number is higher in MN). In an IEP mtg today was told "he's doing well w/ vocab & comprehension." Me: "He needs intensive decoding instruction using structured literacy taught w/ fidelity. How are you addressing THAT?" Crickets. #scienceofreading
Great, timely piece. "The actuarial emphasis on benchmarking and promoting best practices furthers managerial control over curricula and learning, and I contend that it undermines faculty power, governance, and academic freedom." #academictwitter#academicchatter
J. Paul Narkunas’s article in the new #JournalofAcademicFreedom offers a broad analysis of what he calls “trickle-down managerialism” in higher education and its grave consequences during the pandemic. https://t.co/lkBZbVmG5O
Imagine if people knocked on your door to talk about science instead of religion. “Hi, we’d just like a quick chat about the possibility of life in the atmosphere of Venus, and thought you might be interested in hearing about phosphine”?
