@MrsBrodarick@CaseyWard2709@ELOfficePWCS @PKobrynELSpec Great idea for math! You might try the Daily 3 with math. Each day do the following: math with a buddy, write about math, and math by myself. This can promote language development. #worldclassELsbookstudy
@CaseyWard2709@ELOfficePWCS @PKobrynELSpec A2) I want to improve upon monitoring my ELs’ errors to provide appropriate feedback to students. I sometimes do a better job monitoring students’ progress toward SOLS. I will create a checklist to help monitor student language development in more detail. #WorldClassELsbookstudy
@CaseyWard2709@ELOfficePWCS @PKobrynELSpec A1) For informal assessments, I use visual markers such as thumbs up/thumbs down. I also use checklists and record anecdotal notes after each lesson. #WorldClassELsBookstudy
@PKobrynELSpec @ELOfficePWCS@CaseyWard2709 Being able to engage with different people and communicate with more than one language is a valuable skill set. Just look at how many job listings today list requirements as fluency in two or more languages! #WorldClassELsBookstudy
@AwarenessPuzzle @PKobrynELSpec @ELOfficePWCS@CaseyWard2709 Great point! Best practice for ELL students can also benefit SPED students. ESOL and sped teachers are masters of learning who can help every student achieve!
@PKobrynELSpec @ELOfficePWCS@CaseyWard2709 Q3) A3) I most related to principle 1: know your learners. We must know our students culturally, academically, and personally. Knowing our students’ interests helps us more effectively plan instruction. #WorldClassElsBookstudy
@PKobrynELSpec @ELOfficePWCS@CaseyWard2709 I don’t currently use a lot of technology with my ELL students. Pulling small groups within the classroom doesn’t lend itself to that very well. When co-teaching, I do like to use YouTube and Brainpop videos. I especially love Jack Hartmann for his visuals and use of Spanish.
