@ImNotOwned the guardrails have become prison bars that make the regular order of business impossible and create strong perverse incentives for members of congress while at the same time unduly empowering the executive out of necessity
Freezing property taxes in DC is one of the worst policy ideas I've heard.
It's a massive tax cut for people who own properties — including multimillion-dollar houses — paid for by DC residents who do not own homes.
It also drains revenue from DC while we're in a fiscal crisis.
@BrianMerris@nikicaga Yeah I think the big fuck up was letting his disgust at Robert’s callousness about killing rhaegar’s kids drive a wedge between them- had he stayed on the council from the jump things wouldn’t have ended up where they did
@torinthestorm@SupposeIRose@sunfyred Yeah it makes sense, and funny enough had rhaegar not incited it to happen when it did they probably would’ve achieved a settlement (and given rhaegar regency over his father)
Regardless of what one thinks about the validity or use of an electoral tactic, surely deploying it over a conflict where tens of thousands are dying is a bit different than deploying it because a white man won a senate nomination over a black woman
Funny how when Black folks take a page out of the DSA handbook and go "uncommitted," "3rd-party," leave the top line of the ballot blank, or stay home in protest, (especially white) DSAs get mad.
If "earn my vote" is the new thing now, then Black folks also get to do it.
@schicchi_gianni@billybinion@Ecclesiasticu12 He used an imprecise expression to say that opera and ballet are less culturally relevant today than in the past and are more niche than film?
@belladonnafeli@AegonDayne Wait this actually brings something up- does Dany have an accent in the common tongue inflected with free cities Valyrian? Would make sense given her childhood
@torinthestorm@SupposeIRose@sunfyred Yeah could’ve been leading into a sort of Barons Revolt type thing (which would’ve been the outcome of the Arryn/Stark southron ambitions theory)
@downtheline18@seungity_@Etanarachel The fact that there is no slur in the English language for white people that is anywhere close to the equivalent slurs for black people or even other minority groups is evidence of systemic racism. If society had less of that, coprolalics would be able to shout slurs at us all
Uma das coisas mais insuportáveis da era do cancelamento é alguém falar que existe um FATO e o público entender que a pessoa DEFENDE que esse FATO exista
@schicchi_gianni@billybinion@Ecclesiasticu12 It’s about how many people are engaging with the form. If you think the audience compromised of everyone who has ever seen an opera is anything more than several orders of magnitude less than the equivalent for film you’re in denial.
