#ThrowbackThursday : Empowering Marange communities to address obstetric fistula.๐๐ช
Last week, our team partnered with Eastern Arts, a community-based theatre group, to host an interactive community dialogue on sexual and reproductive health rights in Marange, Manicaland.
Communities like Marange hold the key to preventing obstetric fistula by rejecting child marriages and championing healthcare, education, and human rights for women and girls.
Are you or someone you know suffering from obstetric fistula? ๐ค๐
Did you know that this maternal condition is preventable and treatable? ๐๐ช

#Statelessness is a human rights issue. It has an impact on the rights to #education, #health and #employment, all of which Zimbabwe is obliged under international and regional human rights law to respect, protect and fulfil.

In August 2022, Amnesty International Zimbabwe and @bustoptv produced a powerful short film entitled
"At the end of the rainbow," which showcases the intersectionality of child marriage, sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), and obstetric fistula.
This gripping production not only sparked crucial conversations but also caught the attention of film festivals worldwide! Selected for prestigious events like the Zimbabwe International Film Festival, International Images Film Festival, and Sotambe Film Festival (Zambia), 'At the End of the Rainbow' is a testament to the impact of storytelling in amplifying often marginalized issues.

Bed time story for you all;
โThe snake bit the hen, and with the poison burning in her body, she sought refuge in her henhouse.
But the other hens chose to expel her, fearing the poison might spread to them.
The hen limped away, crying in painโnot from the bite, but from the abandonment and contempt of her own family when she needed them most.
She left, burning with fever, dragging one of her legs, vulnerable to the cold nights.
With each step, a tear fell.
The hens in the henhouse watched her disappear on the horizon. Some said to each other:
โ Let her goโฆ She will die far from us.
When she finally vanished into the immensity of the horizon, they were all certain she had died.
Some even glanced at the sky, expecting to see vultures circling.
Time passed.
Much later, a hummingbird came to the henhouse with surprising news:
โ Your sister is alive! She lives in a cave far from here.
She has recovered but lost a leg from the snake bite. She struggles to find food and needs your help.
There was silence. Then came the excuses:
โ I canโt go, Iโm laying eggsโฆ
โ I canโt go, Iโm looking for cornโฆ
โ I canโt go, I have to care for my chicksโฆ
One by one, they all refused. The hummingbird returned to the cave without help.
Time passed again.
Much later, the hummingbird returned with painful news:
โ Your sister has passed away. She died alone in the cave, with no one to bury her or mourn her.
A heavy silence fell. A deep lament filled the henhouse.
Those who were laying eggs stopped.
Those who were searching for corn left their seeds.
Those caring for their chicks forgot them for a moment.
Regret stung more than the poison.
Why didnโt we go sooner? they asked themselves.
Without considering the distance or the effort, they set off for the cave, crying and lamenting. Now, they had a reason to see her, but it was too late.
When they reached the cave, they did not find the hen. They only found a letter that said:
โIn life, many people wonโt cross the street to help you, but theyโll cross the world to bury you when you die.
And most tears at funerals are not from pain, but from remorse and regret.โ
