For generations, most of us grew up hearing stories about just how corrupt Kings and Royalty and Nobility were - about how dangerous it was to have a Monarch, how these political structures and conceptions were the exclusive cause of tyranny..

and certainly, a case can be made in attempts to prove this point - especially by carefully cherry-picking the worst offenders and pretending they were the norm, or laser-focusing on the worst examples of subverted/infiltrated 'Royal' lineages.

What we almost never heard about was the *good King*, or the genuinely principled Monarch, that best example of the type who stood as loving and doting 'father' of his people - protecting them from the ravenous power hungry jackals that'd use and abuse them to the hilt, if they could find any creative means to do so.

Flash forward, and we've deposed all of our Kings and Monarchs, we no longer recognize a Noble class, and traditional hierarchies have largely been brushed aside completely..

Not on paper, in any strictly technical or superficial sense - not 'who is sitting in the office of President or Prime Minister' - but who really rules?

I'd suggest it's those very forces the Good Kings and most selfless and forward-thinking and broad-minded leaders of the past tried to protect their peoples against.

We were coaxed into clearing the way for the very worst elements of the merchant caste to become the ultimate power brokers in our world.

Likely to do with how Christianity is about "life after death" & "saving the soul", as in "destination & finish"?
