Pulled 120+ malicious packages from @rubygems today.
The target wasn't end users - it was RubyGems itself (XSS, data exfiltration).
Reminder: sometimes the registry is the one under attack.

Unpopular opinion: You don't have a talent shortage. You have a talent recognition problem.
Last week, a CTO told us, "There are no good developers anymore."
The same day, we talked to a brilliant developer who's been job hunting for 4 months.
Something's not adding up.
Here's what we think is really happening:
We've all become really good at writing job descriptions that look for unicorns.
5+ years in a framework that's been around for 3 years
"Rockstar ninja who's also a team player"
Must have worked at a Big Tech company
But we've gotten terrible at recognizing actual talent when it's sitting right in front of us.
We've watched companies pass on developers because:
They didn't go to the "right" school
They taught themselves to code instead of getting a CS degree
Their previous company wasn't a recognizable name
They stumbled over one whiteboard question while nervous
Their accent was "different"
They lived in the "wrong" timezone (even for remote roles)
Meanwhile, these same developers are:
Shipping production code every day
Solving complex problems, their "pedigreed" colleagues can't crack
Teaching themselves new frameworks on weekends
Contributing to open source projects
Actually excited about the work
The uncomfortable truth?
Most hiring processes are designed to filter out rather than discover.
We're all using the same old playbook:
Post a job → Get 200 resumes → Skim for keywords → Interview 5 people who all look the same → Wonder why we can't find anyone good
It's like fishing in the same tiny pond and complaining there are no fish... while ignoring the ocean right next to you.
Here's what we've learned after placing hundreds of developers:
The best hires often don't come from where you expect.
They're the developer who:
Built an entire e-commerce platform for their friend's business (even though their LinkedIn says "Junior")
Pivoted from another career and brings a completely different perspective
Works from a city you've never heard of, but writes cleaner code than your current senior dev
Doesn't "perform well" in interviews but ships features like clockwork
The shift that changes everything:
Stop asking: "Do they check all our boxes?"
Start asking: "Can they actually do the work?"
Stop looking at: Where they've been
Start looking at: What they can do
Stop filtering by: Pedigree, location, years of experience
Start filtering by: Problem-solving, learning speed, and actual output
We're not saying lower your standards.
We're saying change your standards to match reality.
The talent is out there. They're just not wearing the costume you expected them to wear.
Question for you:
When was the last time you hired someone who didn't fit your usual profile... and they turned out to be one of your best?
