Barghouti was convicted by an Israeli court on five counts of murder and sentenced to multiple life terms for his role in terrorist attacks that killed Israeli civilians.

Yet more than 20 Marvel actors—including Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Ruffalo—have joined a campaign calling for his release.

Before signing petitions and portraying convicted terrorists as political heroes, perhaps ask yourself one simple question:

What if it were your child?

There is nothing heroic about murdering civilians. There is nothing compassionate about demanding freedom for someone convicted of killing innocent people.

Justice should not depend on whose victims they were.
