Why I’m not ready to sell Clemson yet:
Last night was a historically bad night for Clemson in nearly every way imaginable, but there are a few reasons I don’t think that game will be indicative of their season.
First, Duke has a very solid squad. They returned 18 starters from a 9-win team last season. Riley Leonard is currently projected to be the No. 3 QB taken in the 2024 NFL Draft and Mike Elko has the Blue Devils playing at a level they haven’t seen since the 1950s.
Clemson played about as poorly as possible (in some ways historically bad) vs. a solid team and somehow managed to be leading in the 3rd quarter, and be in a one possession game until the final 10 minutes.
They were in the redzone 5 times. They scored 7 points.
In the third quarter, Clemson ran more plays in Duke territory than Duke ran total. Duke outscored Clemson 7-0 that quarter.
QB Cade Klubnik was targeted by a Duke defender and the play resulted in a turnover on downs and Duke getting the ball.
They had two defenders get both arms on Riley Leonard behind the line of scrimmage on a play that resulted in a 44-yard TD on 3rd down that put the Blue Devils in the lead.
They were at the 1-yard line twice and didn’t score any points on either trip.
They had an offensive lineman refuse to block the edge rusher on three kick attempts (2 FG, 1 XP). Both FG attempts were blocked.
It was the first time in Clemson history that they passed for 200+ yards, rushed for 200+ yards, and lost the game (previously 108-0 as a program, 58-0 under Dabo).
If they clean up the easy fixes (like choosing to block on FGs), don’t fumble the ball before every TD opportunity, get Klubnik more confidence in the pocket, and feed Will Shipley, the Tigers can rally from last night’s loss and have a quality season.
@FQGeorgiaTech Our punter is in at QB right now 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I do not know what you want us to do? Have the defense just stand on the field so you can score??
I never thought about how sunflower seeds are collected but I definitely didn’t think it was done by a bunch of people playing the drums on top of sunflower seed mountains. This is absolutely wild. https://t.co/iFb3B4HmbR
Bama struggles at home for 3Q against one of the worst P5 teams in the country, it's all good.
Clemson has a bad half before cruising to a 35-point road win against a team w/a winning record -- drop a spot (again). Your double standards are showing.
