The United States has approximately 5,200 nuclear warheads.

It is the only country in history to have used nuclear weapons on human beings.

It used them on a civilian population. Twice.

The United Kingdom has approximately 225.

France has approximately 290.

These are the countries leading the international campaign against nuclear proliferation.

Not one of them has disarmed under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which legally obligates them to work toward disarmament. Not one.

The NPT has been in force since 1970.

Fifty-six years.

The nuclear powers have modernized their arsenals, developed new delivery systems, and in the case of the United States, budgeted over $1.7 trillion for nuclear modernization over the next thirty years.

So your question, "Is proliferation good?", would be more interesting if you directed it at the countries that have been proliferating, continuously, for eighty years, while telling everyone else that the capacity they are expanding for themselves is too dangerous for others to possess.

The question is not whether nuclear weapons are good.

The question is why the word "proliferation" only applies to the countries that don't already have them.

That asymmetry is the argument.

This is a huge story: Samsung and SK Hynix, both massive South Korean tech conglomerates, are studying replacing U.S. chip-making machinery with Chinese equivalents in their China factories, because they're worried the U.S. might tighten export controls in a way that'd render their U.S. machinery unusable.

Very concretely, it means that if those companies were pressured by the US to abandon their Chinese facilities, they'd rather switch to fully Chinese indigenous mode than comply.

Which makes sense: for both these companies, China is both their factory floor and their customer. About 40% of Samsung's NAND and 30–45% of SK Hynix's memory output comes from Chinese fabs. If the US forces that kind of choice, it won't get the answer it wants.

It also highlights how little trust there now is in the US: the media always mention the so-called "China threat" but, if you follow the money, top firms from supposed "US allies" are clearly more worried about the "US threat" than they are about Beijing.

BREAKING: The Trump Administration told Congress that Spanish enclaves “Ceuta and Melilla are located in Moroccan territory”, Thomas Massie revealed earlier today.

It also pledged US$40 million of US taxpayer cash for military purposes in Morocco.

“Two weeks ago the House passed a bill that greenlighted the transfer of Spanish territory to Morocco,” Massie wrote on X.

“Every Republican except me voted for it, but now THEY are acting shocked at the invasion,” he added.

MYSTERIOUS ‘INVASION’
Ceuta and Melilla enclaves are clearly recognized as parts of Spain under international law.

But hawkish US leaders are unhappy with the Spanish for refusing to help with the US-Israel attack on Iran, and have been working on the Muslim country’s leadership to move in military lockstep with Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

That was behind the scenes. But last week, mysterious events led to an estimated 60,000 people from the Moroccan side to ‘invade’ Ceuta in recent days, hurting the Spanish leadership and amplifying anti-migrant narratives across Europe and UK.

‘FAVORABLE LANGUAGE’
Although the new US Bill did not directly change the recognition of the Spanish territories, Massie points to the presence of “favorable language for Morocco with respect to the territory controlled by Spain” in the related briefing document, a committee report.

The report also refers to “the future status” of the Spanish enclaves, indicating that the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will push for talks on change.

The report said: “The Committee supports efforts by the Secretary of State to encourage diplomatic engagement between Morocco and Spain on the future status of Ceuta and Melilla.”

MILITARY-LINKED CASH
The document highlighted by Massie also refers to US taxpayer cash going to Morocco.

“The Committee continues assistance for Morocco in support of United States national security interests and directs not less than $20,000,000 under National Security Investment Programs and not less than $20,000,000 under Foreign Military Financing Program,” said the document linked to Bill HR8595.

The US is notorious for using its wealth to build military alliances with nations around the world in a bid to retain global dominance (“national security”).

MIGRANTS DESPERATELY NEEDED
Most of the tens of thousands of interlopers into Ceuta have been returned—but not before the incident caused enormous trouble for Spain’s leadership, with critics using populist anti-migrant sentiment as a basis for censure.

EU bedfellow Italy cancelled Schengen arrival privileges for non-EU people travelling from Spain.

Low birthrates in the EU and UK mean that migrants are desperately needed. But to get votes, governments have to pretend to strongly oppose migration.

Massie is a Republican who makes independent decisions rather than following Trump administration party lines—and for that reason is due to lose his job in January of 2027.
