A Muslim told me,
“Jesus’ crucifixion never happened, and you cannot find any historical evidence outside Christianity to prove it.”

So I said,
“Okay, I don’t believe Muhammad existed. There is no historical evidence outside Islam that proves his existence.”

He immediately said,
“Hold on! Let me show you non-Islamic sources that prove Muhammad existed. Christian and Byzantine writers mentioned a prophet among the Arabs.”

I asked him,
“Do you actually believe those sources?”

He said,
“💯 Absolutely.”

I said,
“Okay, then let’s apply the same standard to Jesus. There are also historical sources outside Christianity that mention Jesus’ crucifixion.

Tacitus, a Roman historian who was certainly not a Christian, wrote that Jesus was executed under Pontius Pilate.

Josephus, a Jewish historian who was not a Christian either, also wrote about Jesus and his followers and referred to his execution.

So, do you believe these sources?”

He said,
“Errrmm… I don’t believe! Christians made those sources up, the Quran says Jesus wasn’t crucified, so I believe the Quran.”

And that’s where the double standard becomes obvious.

I said,
“By that same logic, I don’t believe Muhammad existed and Muslims made up the non-Islamic sources about Muhammad to convince people he existed.”

He said:
“I have something to stand on. The Quran is my proof that Jesus was not crucified.”

I said,
““I also have something to stand on, the Bible and the four Gospels, which were written long before the Quran by eyewitnesses and those who knew the eyewitnesses. The Bible clearly records that Jesus was crucified and rose again.”

Then came the response: “See, allah made it appear that way. The Bible has been corrupted over time.”

So I said:
“I don’t accept the Quran as a source that overrides the earlier testimony about Jesus, especially when Muhammad did not meet Jesus or His apostles. The Bible is sufficient evidence for my faith that Jesus was crucified and resurrected.

You cannot ask me to accept non-Christian historical sources when they support Muhammad’s existence, while rejecting non-Christian historical sources when they support Jesus’ crucifixion simply because the Quran says otherwise.

You’re applying one standard to Muhammad and another standard to Jesus.

That’s a double standard.”

The Myth of the Perfectly Preserved Quran

Muhammad explicitly told Muslims to learn the Quran from four men, including Abdullah ibn Masud and Ubayy ibn Ka’b. So what happens when we actually compare their Qurans with the Quran Muslims have today?

Follow Ibn Masud and you get a codex reported as having 111 surahs, not 114. His codex did not contain al-Fatiha (first chapter in the Quran) or the two Mu’awwidhatayn, al-Falaq and al-Nas (last two in the Quran), with early reports specifically attributing to him the view that the last two were prayers rather than part of the Quran.

Follow Ubayy ibn Ka’b and you get a codex reported as having 116 surahs, including al-Khal’ and al-Hafd, two “surahs” that have completely disappeared from today’s Quran.

And it doesn’t stop with the number of surahs. Ubayy reportedly remembered Surah 33, al-Ahzab, as roughly as long as al-Baqarah (286 verses). Today? Just 73 verses.

So which Quran exactly were Muslims supposed to take?

Ibn Masud: 111 surahs.
Ubayy: 116 surahs.
Today’s Quran: 114 surahs.

You cannot simply chant “perfectly preserved” and pretend these early Islamic reports do not exist. The 114-surah Quran Muslims possess today is the standardized Uthmanic canon, not simply the codex of either of the men Muhammad himself told Muslims to take the Quran from.

That’s not an argument from an anti-Islamic sources. That’s a problem sitting inside the Islamic tradition itself.

@SenRandPaul argued President Biden's preemptive pardon meant Fauci had no reasonable fear of criminal prosecution and should have answered senators' questions.

Chairman Paul said Fauci should be treated like any uncooperative witness.

Fauci "diaries" indicate he knew as early as January 2020 that the science pointed toward a leak from the Wuhan lab, but publicly Fauci blamed the Wuhan wet market.
