When a teacher posts about the unrelenting exhaustion we are experiencing it doesn’t mean they don’t like teaching, don’t like their students, or that they have terrible admin. It could just mean that the weight of everything over the last few years is exhausting without healing.
To the people who say it’s all about the kids. Just remember the kids learn in an environment created by the teacher. A teacher who is supported, encouraged and appreciated will create a more positive and dynamic learning environment than a teacher who is not supported that way.
Y’all. I’m sure winning the lottery is great, but have you ever had a kid wrap their arms around you and yell, “OMG! I can’t believe we’re all together again!” at Meet the Teacher Night?
4. If you are lucky enough to have an out trans/GNC person in your space, know that you have a responsibility as that classroom teacher/facilitator to ensure that the learning space is as safe as possible. If you misgender them, own it. If you hear problematic sh*t, address it.
@designeducated Yes, agreed! Signing up for a class is what does it for me. People know I’m coming and you start to see the same people regularly and they ask about you when you don’t show up. Best thing I’ve done for my work/life balance ever.
Proud teaching moment. This student is obsessed with this hedgehog. We’ve had many discussions around pronouns lately to support a classmate. Overheard during playtime “I wonder what hedgehog’s pronouns are? I better go ask.” In Room 15 we support all mammals and their pronouns.
@ReadsRosenberg Similar to yours, but that all non-binary people identify as NEITHER male nor female as opposed to feeling both, or a fluctuation from day to day and setting to setting.
@Kourtne55842085@vlal42 Small district outside of Madison, WI. We’re in a very blue county in the state and so it’s taken awhile for the mandates to lift.
Watching the writing of these 1st graders just explode this year is so incredible. The descriptive language and details these 6 & 7 year olds are capable of! Thanks to @WitWisdomELA
@CourtneyHella As someone who lives in a state with no mandate but a county where it feels like there’s no end in sight, I would be curious to see a map by counties too.
