Well, it's finally happening! Today is my last day @amprog@CAPimmigration. It's bittersweet after nearly 11 years, but I'm excited for what comes next.
I've done my fair share of threads in the past of my favorite CAP/coalition moments, so instead, here is some gratitude:
NEWS — The Biden administration is planning to allow tens of thousands of Afghans brought to the U.S. after the Taliban takeover of their homeland to apply to stay and work in the country legally for at least another two years, sources tell @CBSNews.

Our new poll found that American voters recognize increased access to highly skilled legal #immigration as a key element to growing the economy and bolstering U.S. competitiveness.

Nearly 1,000 migrant children separated at the U.S.-Mexico border by the Trump administration have yet to be reunited with their parents despite a two-year effort by President Biden https://t.co/Fjocia6Y9V
NEW — The Biden administration is set to announce tomorrow a pilot program that will allow groups of private American citizens to financially sponsor the resettlement of refugees fleeing war and violence across the world, sources tell @CBSNews.

App is working! First appointments are available starting on the 18th through the 31st. This 2-week block will roll forward to the 19th to the 1st tomorrow. So CBP is building in a minimum 6-day wait to process. Unfortunate, but most will wait. Get the word out!
Good/bad in Biden speech:
Bad
*Expands Title 42
*Awful transit ban
Good
*Expands parole program
*Strong case that migrants have good reasons for coming
*Good case for asylum reform
*Blasting Rs for having no solutions
*Strong case that immigration is good and we can fix this
Less a “carrot and stick”and more of an expansion of Title 42 for new nationalities. Combining limited parole with hundreds of thousands of expulsions isn’t going to meaningful change options for people who have no choice but to migrate by land.
Breaking overnight — The Biden administration will unveil today a "carrot and stick" border strategy, expanding both the Title 42 expulsions for those who enter illegally and a process that allows migrants to come to the U.S. legally if they have sponsors.

“the current border crisis is not a COVID crisis…courts should not be in the business of perpetuating administrative edicts designed for one emergency only bc elected officials have failed to address a different emergency. We are a court of law, not policymakers of last resort.”
#BREAKING: By a 5-4 vote (with Justice Gorsuch joining the more liberal Justices in dissent), #SCOTUS keeps Title 42 immigration policy *in effect*; agrees to decide later this Term whether 19 red states should be allowed to intervene in defense of the policy in the lower courts.
Just infuriating: The deal to protect 2 million dreamers and overhaul our asylum system is dead. McConnell told Sinema and Tillis he wouldn't attach it to the omnibus, and other sticking points arose, sources tell me. Here's the ugly, awful inside story:

We are proud to support the EAGLE Act and are continuing advocate for common sense immigration reform on behalf of our employees and their families. We urge Congress to pass the #EAGLEAct, lifting unfair per-country visa caps for employment-based green cards.

Some things I was watching that are NOT in NDAA text:
-Documented Dreamers fix
-TSA pay
-counter-drone reauth
-Afghan Adjustment Act
*Expect to see more efforts to get these in a budget deal, which was the more likely vehicle for several anyway, tho that process is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
