Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Important Conversation with Lawyers:

“The efforts of the party’s negotiation committee are commendable. To ensure that the negotiation process is meaningful, it is essential for me to engage with the negotiation team I have nominated to gain a clear understanding of the issues at hand. I have appointed Sahibzada Hamid Raza as the spokesperson for PTI’s negotiation process.

If the government wants productive negotiations, we have two demands:

1) The release of under-trial political prisoners.
2) Formation of a judicial commission, comprising the most senior judges, to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26.

If these demands are met, we will postpone our civil disobedience movement. However, I fear that the government will attempt to sideline our demand for investigations into the events of May 9 and November 26. We will not allow this to happen.

I reject the unconstitutional decisions of the military courts. These decisions are tarnishing Pakistan’s international reputation, and such inhumane actions could subject the country to economic sanctions. Such decisions are a slap in the face of the so-called ‘constitutional bench’.

Even the judiciary has now admitted that political engineering is taking place in the country. This clearly means that PTI is being crushed, which, in turn, has severely undermined democracy, judicial independence, and the rule of law.

No country can develop without external and internal investment, and investment cannot come without the rule of law. People are transferring their capital out of Pakistan because neither the judiciary is independent here nor is there any respect for the law. After the 26th constitutional amendment, the judiciary’s hands have been completely tied. The establishment of the constitutional bench and its decisions have undermined the dignity of the Supreme Court.”
