there's 29k likes on this stupid question that's self-defeating. by definition, in fantasy anything is possible. why might somebody still have a disability? because a god cursed them and regular magic won't cut it. because the magic is limited. + a billion other good reasons
@herondalish@hubbstercat@_celia_bedelia_ Hormone proportions (HRT, etc) + current bodily layout (size, weight, etc) are generally much more relevant to treatment than [chromosomes? or whatever birth-sex definition someone decides on].
Fewer symptoms is not a good thing (or a sign of "mild" illness). The symptoms being mild or nonexistent generally means your immune system is putting up less of a fight against the virus. People don't know this either.
Every time I see a Harry Potter reference in a movie or TV show nowadays, I have to play the game - “Are the writers transphobic, ignorant, or just don’t care about trans people?” - which is never a fun game to be forced to play while just trying to be entertained.
@EricMcCrazy@fullbearmoon@Shad0w1017@finngalkn It is not, regardless of whatever opinions you hold about trans people 'biological sex' doesn't have 1 defining feature and various physical transition options (HRT, surgery, etc) change one's body significantly. T changes your body's norm to align with cis men's, for instance
A reminder that mental health institutions were a product of Ugly Laws AND Poor Laws, and people fought to get rid of them because every single one was a site of horrific violence, abuse and exploitation. The psychiatric industry also invented diagnoses to target BIPOC
The most blow-your-brains-out American moment of this interview is when this ex-official surmises that more State Dept. officials would speak up if there were universal healthcare and government employees felt that they could afford to lose their jobs.
Beautiful action from @theDykeProject, which has hacked over 100 ads across TfL bus, rail and tube networks to share queer Palestinian stories, and show queer solidarity with Palestinians.
@Higgs1978@autismsupsoc Not all autistic people have access/desire for formal diagnosis. Having an ASD diagnosis means a medical professional has decided you have "clinically significant" autistic traits, but you were autistic before adoctor 'declared' it. Some people never get diagnosed but are autists
you can care deeply about jewish people and still be vehemently against the the actions of the israeli government. don’t let anyone convince you they are one and the same because they simply are not.
My best friend, who is autistic, got written off as 'difficult' by healthcare workers, and subsequently mistreated, because she yelled at a nurse that her IV wasn't in properly and she wasn't getting any painkillers post-surgery. Hours later, they checked it, and she was right.
@fizleglitz @thinkingautism Yes! I always figure out a way I was probably misunderstood a day or two later and want to clear it up, and often a more specific/more accurate explanation of my own feelings/behavior too.
Maybe I'll invent a position that's more extreme than wearing a mask everywhere in public, so that people can feel like they're getting away with something by doing less than what the "unreasonables" are doing. If I told you I masked 24/7 would you at least wear one in Walmart??
@Octopiinthesky@SultanReina @guavaqt Later in the thread they mentioned they opened it when they got there. The numbers improved slightly by the end of class (but probably improved more for them being next to the window, than for classmates elsewhere in the room. It sounded like they just opened 1)
