From the very start of the #MahsaAmini movement, Mohammad has been a powerful voice for women’s rights, free expression, and the dignity of sexual and gender minorities. Now it’s our turn to be his voice. /end

#MohammadSadeghi, a 30-year-old Iranian actor and advocate for the #WomanLifeFreedom movement, has used his widely-followed Instagram to speak out against the morality police and the Islamic Republic’s hijab laws – as well as to support Iran’s persecuted LGBTQ+ community. /1
After livestreaming his own arrest by security forces on Sunday morning, Mohammad now faces a smear campaign from state-backed media outlets seizing on his willingness to challenge gender norms and incorporate makeup and nail polish into his performances and content. /2
Report: at least 354 people including 6 women were executed in the first six months of 2023. 20% of all executions were Baluch minorities. 206 people were executed for drug-related charges, a 126% rise compared to the same period last year.
Underlining the accelerated speed of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s execution machine, Iran Human Rights once again calls on the international community to break their silence and make every effort to save the lives of death row prisoners in Iran by taking a stance on the state killings.
Director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam (@iranhr) said: “The death penalty is used to create societal fear and prevent more protests. The majority of those killed are low-cost victims of the killing machine, drug defendants who are from the most marginalised communities. We especially call on the @UNODC and Member States funding joint projects with Iran, to break their meaningful silence on the execution of more than 206 people for drug offences, and to make all collaborations contingent on halting drug executions.”

Just ten days ago (June 19, 2023), the IRGC arrested five trans women for defending themselves and transferred them to an unknown location. A while later, a news outlet from the regime aired their forced confessions.
These events outraged people, activists and human rights organisations, and they expressed their deep concerns about the violent arrest of trans people and how they are mistreated. A feminist sociologist stated, "The Trans community has constantly been subjected to violence and harsh treatment due to their intersexuality, and as prisoners, they are treated even worse than other prisoners. They are intrusively searched and humiliated, and unjustly treated when arrested. We must remember the fear of mistreatment exists even in the streets; now imagine how much worse the behaviour is in jail. Humiliation, rape, and body mutilation are only some of the things we hear from prison. Now, imagine being sent to a men's prison as a trans woman as a method of torture. Even writing about it is frightening. In prisons, the officers send trans people to solitary confinement for a long time to lessen their responsibilities, which can lead to mental breakdowns. In some cases, these inmates accept crimes they have never committed just to get out of their situation. Prison is one of the most feared institutions in modern societies that subjects the body of trans people to the utmost violence and brutality, and our silence gives way to these harsh and unfair treatments".
This is a part of the series of systematic torture and humiliation against the LGBTQ community, which started from the beginning of the regime's establishment. It has intensified in recent years, especially after the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising.
