@ldaviesmusic @JamesBalliol I think lots of people would be surprised that someone on nearly three times the median wage could only have ยฃ2,700 more a month, but how far that extra money goes is definitely a function of the cost of living where you are.
@ldaviesmusic @JamesBalliol If you had to guess the difference, would you guess ยฃ2,699 / month?
Not an insignificant sum, but I bet it doesn't go far if you live in the South East.

Everyone should play the FTโs Chancellor Game, if only to be told that despite increasing public spending in a bid to clear the backlog in the courts, it turns out Britain is so broken that this wonโt actually fix anything and the voters hate me

At @OpenInnovates we asked 33 pro-growth economists almost exactly the same questions as @UKDayOne had asked different economists (one overlap) a month earlier on how they thought the government should boost economic growth in the UK. Here are our results. https://t.co/i950R7tsHQ
Life. It's just a cycle of maintenance. Cleaning cooking washing working all day every day just to ensure we don't slip behind. We exist just to expend all our energy maintaining that existence. It's circular and pointless and therefore meaningless
@JordanB098 I was in the Christiano Ronaldo museum yesterday, which is basically a big room full of waxworks and replica bling. I looked at the Carling Cup and imagined it full of Carling. Feeling better now though.

@smarr@ShriramKMurthi@cfbolz@stbrunthaler I believe that even when those optimisations are implemented, the tier-2 JIT will still leave a lot on the table, e.g. it won't do unboxing of integer objects. IIRC the long term plan includes a possible tier-3 JIT which would look at this sort of thing.
@smarr@ShriramKMurthi@cfbolz@stbrunthaler The current JIT basically just recovers the cost of the smaller opcodes, by removing the execution overhead. The optimisations are (mostly) still a TODO. AIUI.
