Noncommunicable diseases remain a leading cause of illness and death in Nigeria—but stronger coordination can save lives.
@WHONigeria and @ResolveTSL are aligning efforts with @Fmohnigeria and @NCDCgov to accelerate national NCD and health security priorities, including:
• Supporting regular coordination across ministries and sectors
• Advancing the National Policy on Cosmetics Safety & Health (2025–2030)
• Accelerate collaborative surveillance through Chemical, Environment and Cosmetics Dashboards towards to strengthening health security.
• Expanding the National Hypertension Control Initiative to additional states—building on progress that has already enrolled more than 30,000 patients with blood pressure control rates (number of people screened) and improved treatment control rates in (number of facilities)
These joint efforts also reinforce Nigeria’s implementation of the 7-1-7 framework across 17 states, strengthening rapid detection and response to health threats.
Every day, millions of Nigerians face preventable health risks—from hypertension, epidemics, and lead poisoning. Strengthening partnerships is key to protecting lives.
@WHONigeria, led by @DrPavelUrsu, met with @nanlopogbureke of @ResolveTSL Nigeria to deepen collaboration that supports communities across the country.
Together, @WHO and @ResolveTSL are working with government and partners to:
• Reduce cardiovascular disease deaths — The prevalence of hypertension in Nigeria is estimated at 38%.
• Strengthen epidemic preparedness and response capacity in high-risk areas countrywide
• Prevent lead poisoning, which disproportionately affects children in over 12 states where there is increasing informal recycling of electronic wastes and artisanal mining.
This collaboration—supported by partners and donors—helps advance Nigeria’s progress toward safer, healthier communities.
