After Parkland people told us over and over again, young people just need to vote that’s how you solve this. That’s exactly what we did. Gen Z has been voting at the highest rates in American history every election since 2018 AND last year voted +20 points for Dems. What’s crazy is people like you and many establishment Democrats still don’t think young people vote, that you can just not listen to us and young people will still vote for you. It’s a foolish mistake to take such a critical part of your base for granted. You stand to gain much more by brining an assault weapons ban to a vote over and over even if it doesn’t pass to show young voters and voters of all ages who’s fighting to protect kids and not guns. It’s not 1994 anymore. It’s much more dangerous to be weak on guns than it is to be strong. Plus the “moderate” voter you think will vote for you if you support something like Universal Background Checks but not an Assault Weapons Ban effectively doesn’t exist. 99% of those people are not voting for you already. You know who is though? YOUNG PEOPLE. If you make us lose enthusiasm many young people won’t continue turning out. Show us our vote matters. Show us you are fighting for us. Show the American people who stands in the way and we will vote them out. This summer is on track to be even more deadly than last. We need leadership and courage. Not cowardice and fear of the NRA as our freedom to exist in a safe society is ripped away from us by a lobby that represents anarchy, not responsibility. Bring the assault weapons ban to a vote and if it fails, do it again and again.
