Blindly embracing academic cooperation with China, our greatest geopolitical rival, is absurd.
Nobody suggests we train Iranian nuclear physicists or Russian ballistics engineers. Why make an exception for a nation seeking to crush us in emerging tech? https://t.co/q4A67IZlwg
If you are European and still haven’t grasped that the EU - both as a collective actor and through its individual members - has no real weight as a geopolitical actor on the global stage, then now is the moment to face this brutal truth. The EU has been completely sidelined in the negotiations over Ukraine’s future - and, by extension, the future of the entire European security order.
In the emerging triumvirate of great powers in this Cold War 2.0 between the United States and the DragonBear axis, Europe has been reduced to the backyard of global affairs and the main stage for the first proxy war between Washington and Beijing. Make no mistake: Russia would never have launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine - aiming to fully erase its statehood - without the long-term strategic backing of China.
Europe not only failed to prevent this war; it would have been incapable of sustaining Ukraine without the immediate and comprehensive support of the United States. Without Washington’s decisive intervention in 2022, Ukraine would likely have collapsed in the first phase of the war.
More than three years of complacency, inadequate measures, and a chronic lack of political will and courage in Europe have brought about the continent’s gravest war and destruction since 1945. This is Europe’s make-or-break moment. The fate of Ukraine - and the fate of Europe itself - is now being decided elsewhere, by the three great powers.
Welcome to the new world order. As a European, you can continue living within the carefully curated illusions of a politically incapacitated leadership - or you can confront reality. The reality is harsh, but facing it means you have not yet surrendered your future.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz:
“For far too long, we in Germany have ignored the warnings of our Baltic neighbors about Russia's imperialist policies. We have recognized this error. There is no turning back from this realization.”
For a taste of what prisoners endure under the #Belarus regime, I quickly transcribed into English a clip from the press conference of Siarhei Tsikhanovski, who tried to run against the regime in 2020, who just spent 5 years in jail with almost no contact with the outside world.
The Big Data firm Palantir spent years developing lethal military tech.
Now it’s leading a transformation in Silicon Valley, with tech giants abandoning their progressive posturing to join the battle for American military supremacy. https://t.co/hSUSf9JGva
@bernardohulsman@adriaanmol From my experience they don't take it for granted, but its a necessity for their start-up to grow. They would love the stay in the EU if the could, and the business environment would allow it.
@sirkup@adriaanmol They are starting in the UAE as they have a investment fund for startups. that offers very high investments. A key requirement is that you must live in UAE to be eligible. However, afterwards, many will move to the USA because of the ecosystem that's one of a kind.
If European countries fixed their broken employee stock structures & stopped taxing it like clowns, entrepreneurs wouldn’t have to complain about Europe. The talent is here, diversity is an edge, and quality of life creates opportunity. Just be a bit more pro-business.
More grinding + less tax on employee stock = more output = more innovation = more distributed wealth = more tax paid.
France just did the opposite. I don't understand the logic behind this, because there isn't? Seems to me purely populistic short-term thinking.

With Elon demanding government employees report on what they got done last week, almost nobody noticed what the office of US Trade Representative got done: Proposed $1M fee per port call for all Chinese made ships at all US ports.
Enough talking, it’s time to act! 1. Let’s finance our aid for Ukraine from the Russian frozen assets. 2. Let’s strengthen air policing, the Baltic sentry and the EU borders with Russia. 3. Let’s swiftly adopt new fiscal rules to finance the EU security and defence. Now!
Zelensky in Munich says what many think but are afraid to say: The old days are over.
The U.S. doesn’t see Europe as a partner. Europe must build its own army, together with Ukraine

SCOOP: in an interview with the Capitol Forum, Booking CEO criticized European regulators for issuing “astronomical” fines on tech firms, arguing that such penalties are undermining the European Union’s ability to compete as a global economic superpower.
