@MBTA the 1 bus has a detour scheduled 8a-1p tomorrow but it looks like it was accidentally activated in your data feeds just before noon *today*.
now there's no arrival information for stops in back bay and cambridge. see screenshots from MBTA Go below.
This is a terrific and essential piece of reporting and I'm glad Bloomberg finally did this narrative the justice it deserves. But arguably, every Indian person in the US on a visa has known about this for years. South Asian stories are a huge blind spot in the US media.
Every year, a lottery determines who gets an H-1B visa to work in the US. The game, it turns out, is rigged.
Outsourcing and staffing firms are exploiting loopholes, crowding out US employers and immigrants who play it fair.
We have exclusive data to show it for the 1st time 🧵
OUT NOW: Savera’s comprehensive report on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHP-A), the oldest Hindu supremacist group in the US, and its links to white supremacists, far-right provocateurs, and violent Indian militants. Read all about it here: https://t.co/MR75QneA4w
@vwcares the infamous TSB work was done in 2018, and I've kept up with maintenance. The car is in good shape. I barely use the sunroof. Drains are clear. The car is garaged at my home and work. There's no reason you're going to be able to give me that WON'T be bad VW design
@vwcares I have a 2017 GTI with a leaking sunroof that went to the dealer today to be worked on. No incidents, it just started leaking.
Every possibility sounds like I'll be paying 100s or 1000s for bad VW design decisions. This is my 2nd VW but I'm not inclined to get a 3rd atm
@vwcares I don't know the diagnosis yet, but I see absolutely no reason why I should have to pay a single dollar for any of it. A properly-designed car shouldn't spring leaks through the roof inside of six years, warranty or no warranty.
This "transit" "system" is beyond parody. And @CharlieBakerMA and @spoftak should be facing legal consequences for their sabotage-level mismanagement of it.
Effective immediately, out of an abundance of caution, the Red, Orange, Blue, & Green Lines will operate at speeds of 10-25mph following findings by the Department of Public Utilities during a recent site visit of the Red Line between Ashmont & Savin Hill.
USAC is supposed to host a World Cup in a year, and there's talk that the ICC might have to step in to organise things on their behalf. Spare us the talk of *this* crowd "helping" MiLC players.
MiLC is probably not perfect, but at least they've run two seasons of cricket.
Not a week goes by without this organisation beclowning themselves. Sometimes in new and innovative ways, sometimes in the same ways USACA was doing before them.
My dad has good advice for PhDs in math who want to make an impact in industry - there are probably nuggets you can pull for your own transition out of academia even if you're not a mathematician or engineer.

It’s official: our movement has WON a historic, first-in-the-nation ban on caste discrimination in Seattle! Now we need to build a movement to spread this victory around the country ✊
“… a history of blurred distinctions… that the state itself generates and maintains.”
“In those parts of our cities where… land zoned for agricultural purposes has been converted to luxurious ‘farmhouses’, the bulldozers seem to lose their way.”

On the left, the work permit application from when I last practiced in 2016. On the right, the current application.
Relatedly, one "fun" little trick the Trump people at USCIS did was require you to hand-write "N/A" in EVERY empty box or they'd deny your application. 🙃
Here's what out-of-control bureaucracy looks like. The Green card application today (all those pages on the left) v. 2003 (those 4 pages on the right). Understand this: We got no new laws during this time. We just got new bureaucrats https://t.co/9hN6ZOQJsU
