H-1B workers are stuck outside the US thanks to cancelled visa appointments, disrupting personal and professional lives. As @calebharshbergr and I report, working remotely will be complicated by big tax implications for their employers.

The security vulnerability we found in Perplexity’s Comet browser this summer is not an isolated issue.
Indirect prompt injections are a systemic problem facing Comet and other AI-powered browsers.
Today we’re publishing details on more security vulnerabilities we uncovered.
Analysts noticed that CCTV cameras in Taiwan and South Korea were digitally talking to crucial parts of the Indian power grid – for no apparent reason. On closer investigation, the strange conversation was the deliberately indirect route by which Chinese spies were interacting with malware they had previously buried deep inside the Indian power grid

My father came to this country alone and broke, leaving behind a wife and 2 year old son. He worked menial jobs during the early 1970s to pay for grad school. He started having breathing problems and was found to have a large thymus tumor causing airway obstruction that needed surgery. He was not expected to do well. The first thing my mother did when arriving in a strange country was go to the hospital to "say goodbye" to her husband who probably wouldn't survive.
He did survive, and he and my mother eked out a meager living, while getting graduate degrees and trying to raise me. Dad eventually got a masters in architecture, but still worked nights washing dishes and sweeping the floors at LaGuardia airport. (He tried driving a cab, but stopped when someone pulled a knife on him).
Mom and dad did OK - neither ever made more than $60k a year but they managed to put me through college and medical school. They also instilled something in me - the power of self determination.
I was told my future was mine to make because there was no one to give me anything. You succeeded or failed based on your merits and your work - nothing more and nothing less. I became a neurosurgeon, even as people supposedly there to guide me constantly told me I couldn't.
The privilege I was given was having 2 great Indian parents who sacrificed so I could do better than they did. Now I'm being told that my work ethic is a mark of insolence, oppression and vanity by a group of supercilious midwits who believe success is a zero-sum game for them to adjudicate.
As @anangbhai commented, most of this is done to virtue signal and demonstrate social proof to trust fund Bolsheveiks, who value connections and status over actual achievement.
Fancy the sort of person that loathes achievement and is disdainful of the accomplished? You'll find a person that doesn't believe in the agency of the individual.
You are lost. We are not.

Law school roommate and I decided to make brownies one winter day. We baked them and turned off the oven, but neglected to take them out—for three months. Friend asked to use our oven in the spring and found the brownies (or remains thereof). She was appropriately horrified.
