Don’t know about Rang De Basanti, but let me tell you what some of us millennials actually grew up watching.
I was in primary school during the 1993 Mumbai bombings -- too young to even understand what terrorism meant. But I distinctly remember my mom repeatedly warning me not to pick up anything lying around while playing outside because, you know, it could be a bomb.
That was childhood.
Then came the seemingly endless procession of attacks: the 1993 Mumbai blasts, Red Fort in 2000, Parliament in 2001, the Mumbai bus bombings and Akshardham in 2002, three separate blasts within eight months in Mumbai in 2003, the 2005 Delhi blasts, the 2007 Hyderabad bombings, and the 2008 Bangalore and Ahmedabad blasts.
In July 2006, I was supposed to be on one of the trains that was bombed near Mahim. I stayed back at the office because of a meeting. A completely mundane change of plans is probably the reason I’m alive to type this instead of being a name on a list of the dead.
I remember that evening far better than I remember any stupid movie. Our office went into lockdown. Phones were jammed. People were crying and frantically trying to reach their families. Nobody knew what was happening, whether there were more bombs, or whether someone they loved was lying dead inside a mangled train compartment.
Two years later came 26/11.
I had the misfortune of watching uncensored footage of the aftermath. One clip showed bodies being piled and stacked inside a makeshift room at CST while someone wheeled in another load on a bloodied wheelbarrow, with blood dripping onto the floor. The sanitised footage shown on television didn't come remotely close to what actually happened inside that station.
So yes, us millennials lived through an era where we went to work knowing that the crime of simply boarding the wrong train, getting on the wrong bus, eating at the wrong restaurant, or standing on the wrong street at the wrong fucking moment could get you blown to pieces or riddled with bullets.
Some of us literally went to work wondering, somewhere at the back of our minds, whether this would be the commute we wouldn't come home from.
So please, spare us millennials this sanctimonious horseshit about Rang De Basanti and what some Bollywood movie supposedly should have taught us about how to vote.
Every generation has had a Z phase. Every generation has rebelled at the right age, filled with leftist rage.
Every generation has had people cheering them on. And every generation has had people calling them useless. Parasites.
Every generation has suffered a lathi charge. Often rubber bullets, and some were unfortunate enough to be hit by live ammo. Dead.
Every generation has had politics placate them, making them feel important.
Every generation has been promised the world. And every generation has survived betrayal.
People have immolated themselves and the government has turned a deaf ear. People have only blocked roads and the government has given in.
This baptism by fire is part of life in this unfair and lovely world. Don't fear the fire. Don't play with it either.
Don't lose hope. Don't be too high on the hype either. No matter what they tell you, you will be the world to your family and friends. And no matter what they tell you, you are not unique. Either.
@ActusDei@sashindnj financially smart for individuals, but what about the macro impact? Is ignoring population decline for individual gain a "dangerous territory" for our future? #IndiaEconomy#AgingPopulation

I read this a few weeks ago, and it still stays rent free in my head.

@Dhiraj_Ruler@GurugramDeals Wow No one corrected you. 675 rs is not for one day. It contains 200gm coffee. Single cup of strong coffee can be made with 2 gms. So it has 100 servings and one cup coffee cost would be less than 10 Rs
If you're planning to visit #Italy in 2025 then make sure you plan your trip well in advance.
According to Italy’s National Tourist Research Institute (ISNART), a total of 35 million people are expected to visit Italy in 2025, increasing from 13 million visitors recorded in 2024. Accommodation can be an issue. Prices will also increase due to the rush.
Reason being 2025 is a Jubilee Year. The Jubilee, also known as the Holy Year, is an important year for Catholic worshippers who come to Rome to ask for forgiveness. The Jubilee happens every 25 years, and the Year of Prayer begins on Christmas Eve of 2024 and continues until January 6, 2026.

Mind-blowing: While modern-day AI researchers are surprised how LLMs show emergent capabilities from text alone, The Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad (~500-100 BCE) already proposed that all of reality could be understood through language! 1/

You take the sachet. Put few spoons of water, one spoon of oil. Make a paste. Marinate the chicken/paneer

A very impressive double gold achievement by India. "Vishy's children" are all grown up and chess is coming home! Two American flags on the podiums as well, worthy of note. Add Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, with no European flags.
Came across a post in which a guy is proudly claiming to have switched veg and non veg stickers on his office microwave.
Is the low-IQ guy even aware that people who have life threatening allergies to eggs or shell fish intentionally stick to vegetarian options in all public places due to possibility of contamination, which is why labelling is so important.
Someone spiteful like this could cost a life.

So after massive disappointments I’ve finally found the BEST LAAL MAAS in jaipur. Laal maas is a cult - if you haven’t tried a good one you’ll never know - just chillies, onion, garlic & yoghurt. Try this one (his safed maas & Nirjharna special are also great)
I just attended @REconveneLA - a real estate conference full of commercial investors who each acquire millions of dollars a year of property.
The cold hard truth:
Things are very bad.
The main takeaway for me personally:
General sentiment is not good. Fear. Struggle. Interest rates are crushing people.
Replacing debt is difficult. Banks don’t want to lend. Their balance sheets are hurting. They are retrading terms at the zero hour and telling investors to take it or leave it. Investors are desperately accepting whatever they can get.
Most institutional buyers are pencils down. Laying off staff. No activity.
Investor capital is very hard to raise. We’re competing against 5% treasuries and cashflow on assets is way lower. Why would people invest in real estate? People are unable to close deals because they can’t raise equity.
Deals are not trading and transaction volume is way down. Brokerage shops are going out of business. There is a mass exudes from the business and thousands are getting laid off.
Several people I spoke to are working hard to save properties. They have floating rate debt on development or value add deals they can’t get done.
Operational fundamentals are under pressure. Revenue is down. Rentals are down. Leasing velocity is down. Rents are dropping in many markets.
A lot of development is still finishing and will make that problem a lot worse.
I saw fear in peoples eyes. They are making incredibly difficult decisions.
It is clear that if rates and rents stay here another 12 months there will be carnage. 24 months + and it will bring a real estate apocalypse.
For those who can retain staff and raise capital the opportunities will be enormous and they are already appearing.
The overlevered folks and poor operators will go broke. The professionals will buy great assets at great prices and get richer.
Hard times are ahead.
Be strong and keep fighting.
