(a) Nehru did not go to Karachi on 29 July 1949 to sign the "Karachi Agreement ".

The actual agreement (Agreement Between Military Representatives of India and Pakistan Regarding the Establishment of a Cease-Fire Line in the State of Jammu and Kashmir) was signed on 27 July 1949 by military officers Lt Gen S.M. Shrinagesh for India and Maj Gen W.J. Cawthorn for Pakistan under the supervision of the UN Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP).

It was a purely military document that formalised the positions held after the 1 January 1949 ceasefire. It was not a political deal in which India “handed over its share of Kashmir” to Pakistan. The governments of both countries ratified it on 29 and 30 July.

Nehru was not present in Karachi. His first visit to Karachi as Prime Minister was in 1953.

The areas under Pakistani control (PoK) were already occupied as a result of the 1947–48 invasion. India retained control of the larger part of the state, including the Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Ladakh. Taking the matter to the UN was India’s response to Pakistani aggression, not a “historical blunder” that gifted territory away.

(b) The Indo-Sri Lanka Accord of 29 July 1987 .The date is correct. Rajiv Gandhi and President J.R. Jayewardene signed the Accord in Colombo.
Its stated aims were the devolution of power to the provinces (leading to the 13th Amendment), temporary merger of the Northern and Eastern provinces, official status for Tamil, and the deployment of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) to oversee the surrender of arms by militant groups and restore peace.

It was NOT an agreement to “roast our Tamil brothers with bullets.” The LTTE refused to fully disarm, which led to fighting. The IPKF operation (1987–90) cost over 1,100 Indian lives and caused civilian casualties on all sides , a tragic outcome of a complex civil war, not the original intent of the Accord.

Rajiv Gandhi was attacked the same day by a Sri Lankan naval rating during the guard of honour (rifle-butt assault). He was assassinated by the LTTE in 1991.

Both events can be legitimately debated and criticised. Inventing facts claiming Nehru personally went to Karachi and surrendered Kashmir, or that the 1987 Accord was designed to slaughter Tamils is not history.

The primary sources (UNCIP reports, the official text of the 1949 Karachi Agreement on the MEA website, and the full text of the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord) are publicly available. Stick to them.
