Over 2,000 students across Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Assam have benefited from the ‘Each One Reach One’ mentorship programme, launched by the Guwahati Regional Office of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) last year. The initiative aims to address students' academic struggles, emotional distress, and behavioural issues by assigning dedicated teacher-mentors.

In the first session, 1,450 teachers from 42 KVs adopted 2,260 students. Mentorship continued into the second year for many, with significant academic outcomes. Among those mentored were 183 Class 10 students, with a 99.5% pass rate, and 285 Class 12 students, with a 98.6% success rate.

Mentors also identified developmental gaps: 29.4% of students struggled with literacy, 21.7% had difficulties in STEM, 12.6% faced attention issues, and 9.1% showed emotional or behavioural challenges.

Key success stories a hyperactive Balvatika-3 student who overcame restlessness to engage in classroom activities; a Class 10 student who improved in Maths and Science after family and emotional counselling; and another who overcame anxiety through mindfulness, time management, and nutrition support.

Inspired by the National Education Policy 2020, the programme is now being piloted in other regions. “It’s inspiring to see this initiative making a difference,” Azad said.
