On March 25, National Genocide Day, we pay our deepest respect to all the martyrs. The events of this day in 1971 stand not only as a tragedy for a single nation, but as a symbol of brutal state violence against the people of this region and against the very ideals of humanity.

The Pakistani military junta’s ‘Operation Searchlight’ was a calculated campaign of mass killing, aimed at silencing the voices, dignity, and identity of the Bengali people.

On that dark night, unarmed civilians were subjected to indiscriminate slaughter across the country most notably in the residential halls of Dhaka University, Rajarbagh Police Lines, and the EPR headquarters in Pilkhana. Women, children, the elderly, and minority communities were not spared from the brutality.

The objective of this genocide was to crush the people’s aspiration for freedom. Yet, it failed. Instead, that very night ignited a resistance that grew into a determined struggle, ultimately culminating in independence.

On this solemn day, we renew our commitment to uphold the spirit of the liberation war by building a just, humane, and equitable Bangladesh. Beyond all divisions of party and opinion, we pledge to work together in unity toward that vision.

We pray for the eternal peace of the souls of the martyrs.
