Shereen Ratnagar should not have dabbled in the archaeological dispute over Ayodhya. She knew nothing about it. Dhaneshwar Mandal and Romila Thapar took her for a ride. Mandal and Ratnagar were convicted of contempt of court for publishing a book based on the ASI report despite court’s embargo.

What a stupid reading of Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri!

Jahangir’s interactions with Jadrup were limited to only a handful of meetings, during which he appears to have filtered aspects of Vedanta through an Islamic framework, drawing parallels that suited his own understanding.

Yet years later, the same Jahangir records the execution of a Hindu man for marrying a Muslim woman while legitimising the opposite arrangement. The Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri itself stands as evidence of this contradiction.

Constructing an image of Jahangir as inherently “syncretic” from a few philosophical conversations is historical acrobatics. Passing curiosity toward another tradition does not erase the broader pattern of conduct reflected in his own decrees and court records.
