I visited Sugnu Bazaar today. I find it saddening to see 95% of the shop closed. Sugnu, which was once a bustling small town, lies in the southern tip of Imphal Valley, Sugnu is a melting pot of all ethnic group of Manipur.

Sugnu / Serou was peaceful till May 27th because of an understanding amongst the chief of surrounding villages. The peace pact was broken by the militants on 27th midnight. About 200 houses were burnt on that night.

It was later found that in spite of the peace pact the surrounding villages were building up arms and ammunition stockade. It will never be the same like before in Sugnu again!
