As of this year, about 50% of Tamil Nadu school students study in government schools. This percentage has dropped considerably because the government schools have gotten worse. Often even poor rural parents borrow money to send their children to private schools when they can, because of the deterioration in government schools.
One key problem is the corruption in government school recruitment, which has been a long standing open secret and the going rate I am told is about one year of salary paid in advance.
I studied in free schools funded by the government (aided school) so I want to make the system stronger.
We are happy to run our free private schools, and we will expand them further, but we need to make our government schools much stronger.
We still have many dedicated teachers in government schools. We have to strengthen them. A good place to start is to end the corruption in school teacher recruitment.
The infrastructure of government schools is good in some places, not so good in others. But fixing that comes next, only after fixing recruitment.
Our poorest communities need strong free schools. Thank you 🙏 @CMOTamilnadu

Some movies can be watched 100 times and still feel just as magical. These three films have made me laugh, cry, and smile every single time and i never get tired of seeing them.
Darling Darling Darling will always remain my favorite Tamil Rom com of all time.
A heartfelt tribute to the legendary K. Bhagyaraj, whose storytelling blended humour, romance, and emotion like no one else.
Deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of K. Bhagyaraj sir.
It feels especially unreal because I had the opportunity to meet him recently at Khushbu’s daughter’s wedding and spend some time with him.
Bhagyaraj sir was a creative genius whose contributions to Indian cinema go far beyond what many people know. He was the original creator behind stories that went on to become landmark Hindi films and career-defining milestones for so many of us.
Woh Saat Din, adapted from his work, became one of the most important films of my career. Mohabbat, with its story, screenplay and dialogues by Bhagyaraj sir, not only gave us a memorable film but also helped launch the journey of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria as producers through Maruti International.
Later, Beta, another adaptation of his brilliant writing, became a blockbuster and remains one of the defining films of its era. Boney and I had acquired the rights and passed them on to Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria during a difficult phase in their journey. The film went on to become a massive success, with all of us receiving tremendous recognition.
Another remarkable example of Bhagyaraj sir’s brilliance was Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Directed by David Dhawan, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, and starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra, the film’s story and screenplay were by Bhagyaraj sir and adapted into Hindi by Anees Bazmee. The film became a major success and marked another important milestone in Akshay Kumar’s career.
The seeds of all these successes were planted by Bhagyaraj sir. We adapted his stories for Hindi audiences, but the true creator was always him. His writing touched countless lives and careers, mine included. He helped shape the journeys of actors, filmmakers and producers across generations, often without receiving the recognition he truly deserved.
I will always remain grateful for what he contributed to my career and to Indian cinema as a whole. His legacy will live on through the stories he created and the countless people he inspired.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. He will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Bhagyaraj sir. 🙏
Three years of work hv finally begun to yield results. Thank you TVK government @CMOTamilnadu@arunraajkg for transparently updating no. of absconding doctors. Special thanks to @Arappor@comrade_rk for taking up this long-ignored issue.
Not 200. Not 500. It's huge - 1,420 doctors in TN absconded from govt. service after availing 50% govt quota PG seats, 30% NEET-PG incentive marks, hefty monthly salaries during studies& free education on taxpayers' money.
Hope this government will now expedite action against these doctors and will not bow to the pressure of doctors' lobby like previous governments.
One of our greatest storytellers. His screenplays redefined Tamil cinema, and his speeches were every bit as entertaining as the stories he wrote. A true master of wit, emotion, and simplicity.
Farewell, Bhagyaraj sir. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations.

El Niño and India - what lies ahead
If predictions hold, then ...
1) June–September 2026
Monsoon likely below normal. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat and parts of Central India could face rainfall deficits. Farmers may delay sowing decisions.
2) October–December 2026
Reservoir levels become critical. Food prices begin reflecting lower kharif output. El Niño expected to peak globally around this period.
3) January–March 2027
Winter temperatures may remain above normal. Wheat and rabi crops could face moisture stress in some regions. Urban water management critical.
4) April–June 2027
Elevated heatwave risk. Power demand records may be challenged. Water shortages in vulnerable cities and districts.
Opportunities for India
El Niño is not entirely negative and India could see:
1) Increased solar power generation due to clearer skies.
2) Faster renewable energy output in solar-rich states.
3) Better planning as forecasts available months in advance.
4) Large food grain stocks cushion severe shortages.
5) Improved irrigation efficiency and water-management programs could reduce losses.
Strategic Outlook
If the projected strong El Niño develops and peaks in late 2026, risks are clear:
Monsoon deficit | Agricultural output reduction | Food inflation | Water stress | Heatwaves | Higher electricity demand | Slower rural economic growth.
Testing times lie ahead. #ElNino
Can we have two new exchanges to trade MP's and MLA's on the lines of BSE and NSE? They can be listed at a base price and thereafter their price varies by the revenue potential of the State and the urgency/need of political parties to bag them.
So, the price of an MLA from a state with a hung Assembly will be much higher than a State where the ruling party has a 2/3rd majority.
For an MP it could vary based on the need of a party to topple the Government or pass certain bills.
Parties can bid for them through the exchange. Whatever price is paid will include GST and there will be a lock in period after each transaction during which the same MLA/MP cannot be traded again. Along with the bid amount if any post is to be provided to that legislator, that can be bid for too.
This will make the entire process transparent, we will know for how much they switched sides and at least some revenue will go to the exchequer.
It will be the first of its kind in the world but based on horse trading that has become endemic in India it is not entirely unthinkable.
What do you think of this idea?
PS: This is NOT a serious post but one made out of frustration at the present state of Indian polity.
This was something my parents instilled in me at a young age. I grew up in the vibrant city of Chennai, India. It was a comfortable life for the most part, but in those early years, we had some challenges. We worried about severe drought and whether the water truck would arrive in time, and for us, technology came slowly. We had to wait years to get a telephone, a TV, a refrigerator. Each changed our lives in meaningful ways. My parents never let the constraints limit my imagination of what was possible. It's the reason I even let myself dream I could one day work in a faraway place called Silicon Valley.
When the call from Stanford came, my father spent the equivalent of a year's salary to buy my ticket - @sundarpichai

Unilateral change in subscription terms by #ZEE5 just days before the #FIFAWorldCup2026 is deeply concerning.
Drastically reducing the 'Device Limit' for new subscribers compared to existing ones is an unfair trade practice that compromises consumer rights.
I have formally written to the Hon’ble Minister for Consumer Affairs, Shri @JoshiPralhad, regarding these arbitrary practices. The government must establish clear guidelines to protect the rights of digital subscribers against such exploitation.

🚨Sunil Chhetri Reveals Why India Is Still Missing the Fifa World Cup2026🚨
Reporter 🗣️: Why is India unable to qualify for the FIFA World Cup every time?
Sunil Chhetri 🗣️ India doesn't fail to qualify for the World Cup because of a lack of talent. The real problem is that we are not yet a true sporting nation. We do not identify and nurture talent at the right age and through the right system.
With a population of 1.5 billion, countless talented children never get discovered or developed. Countries like the United States, France , Germany, Argentina , and Brazil succeed because they have strong systems that scout talent early and provide the best coaching, facilities, and support.
The day India builds a nationwide structure where every talented child can be identified, nurtured, and given the right opportunities, we will not only improve in football but in every sport. Talent is not the issue—the system is.
