The problem with St. George is, we all paid for the benefits seen on the south side of Baton Rouge. Due to a consolidated form of government and inequity in leadership, I can give specific examples of the disparity.

In 2005 we approved a tax plan for roads in Baton Rouge. We spent $800 million on new roads. The historically Black parts of north Baton Rouge got $46 million of that money over the 15 years they designed new streets. Including Perkins, Burbank, and Pecue Lane. Give us our portion of the money we spent on those roads back.

If they want to start a new mostly white city, and show how hateful and racist they truly are, that doesn’t bother me. I’ll be damned if you’re going to take our money to build it. So the position now is to protect every penny for the city, because if they want their own they should build it.

They will have to raise taxes to afford their plan, racism is going to cost them…

My position is always going to be to protect the interests of my community. They had no problem creating a 70% white city, so I have no problem fighting for the interests of the majority Black city. Line in the sand…

A group of 5-10 white men, organized and fundraised with 800 people, to mobilize a vote of 17,421 people to breakaway and create a new city in my home town.

People often ask me why I’m so direct about race. It’s in my face everyday how clear some in our city think about Black people and leadership. Baton Rouge is only on its 2nd Black mayor in its 200 year history. So historic neglect by previous leaders created a tale of two cities. I’ve been saying it for over a decade. Now it’s here.

One day these videos I make will start getting you to ask why aren’t you doing more? These white men all over 50 just organized an effort that will impact us for the next 200 years. And if more people had showed up, if more people had organized, we wouldn’t be here.

To my folks in Atlanta. Take notice. Buckhead and what they attempted to do a few years ago, trust they are taking note. I hope you are too.

There are people in this country who will do everything in their power not to be under Black leadership. Let’s be clear, what’s wrong with America wasn’t created by Black people. What’s wrong in Louisiana is inequity that breeds all the social ills including crime.

I want to be very clear, they drew the line in the sand when they created a new city. So I intend to be lending my voice to make sure we protect every investment for the citizens of Baton Rouge. We’ve built the South Side, and they packed up their toys. Now, it’s time for Baton Rouge to do what is in the best interest of Baton Rouge.

This is and has always been a war for resources for them, we need to do whatever is in our power to protect our resources as a city. There is no room to compromise with people who have literally divided this community, to make a 70% white city.

All the people who say, they couldn’t put up with what people put up with in the 1960’s. You’re on the clock, we in the field working at this change. You can join us whenever you realize these types of people are after your kids resources everyday. You’re paying into the system it’s about time we fully take control of some things and show folks what to do with power.

Simpson, who was acquitted in a jury trial, yet never mentioned the fact that Carolyn Donham Bryant, the woman who caused the murder of Emmett Till and lied on the witness stand to protect his murderers, actually did confess to her perjury, yet was never arrested or charged.

Marissa Alexander is a Black woman from Florida who fired a warning shot at her abusive ex husband, Rico Gray, who assaulted and threatened her. He wasn’t harmed.

She was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Bryn Spejcher is a white woman who stabbed her boyfriend, Chad O'Melia, 108 times across his body. She killed him.

Her defense was…she was high on weed after taking two tokes of a bong.

A jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to probation in January. She won’t spend a day in jail.

In 1893, Frederick Douglass invited Ida B. Wells to lunch. She noted a place across the street, but indicated they would not receive service there. “Mr. Douglass, in his vigorous way, grasped my arm and said, ‘Come, let’s go there.’” Together, they “sauntered in...as if it were an everyday occurrence, cocked and primed for the fight if necessary.” Douglass grabbed a table and chair for him and Wells, as “paralyzed” staff looked on. A stand-off ensued with wait staff until the proprietor realized it was Frederick Douglass, and warmly welcomed him while sharing stories of a time past when Douglass visited his hometown. “When [the proprietor] finally went to another part of the room, Mr. Douglass turned to me with a roguish look and said, ‘Ida, I thought you said that they didn’t serve us here. It seems we are getting more attention than we want.’”

Frederick Douglass spent his life fighting for justice and equality. He never knew the date of his birth. This is something he struggled with throughout his lifetime. Douglass believed that he was born in the month of February in 1817. In fact, records show that Douglass was born in February of 1818. He chose the 14th of February for his birthday because his mother would call him her “little Valentine." Unfortunately, Douglass never knew much about his parentage. His mother, Harriet, was sold off when Douglass was but a child, and he only met her a few times before she passed away. Though born enslaved in Maryland, he escaped as a young man and became a leading voice in the abolitionist movement.
