The tragedy of Nigeria is that many of its leaders are not truly interested in solving the country’s problems. They are more focused on politics, rent-seeking, and picking sycophants and ethnic journeymen for jobs they can’t perform. But problems can’t solve themselves.
Agreed. A sensible and mature position. The interest of Nigeria and Nigerians in terms of actual governance performance, regardless of partisan political differences, should be paramount.
The further I distance myself from NgX, the happier I feel. I made the terrible mistake of scrolling through NgX for a minute today, only to see middle and elite class Nigerians saying poor people are vindictive, ungrateful and hateful. While some are, personally I don't see it as a class syndrome.
Some of the most wicked, selfish, lying, gossiping, fake, abusive, exploitative, ungrateful, hateful, vindictive and downright scammy/scummy experiences I have had in Nigeria were at the hands of people who had plenty. What is more sinister is that these people deserve Oscars for how well they act like they are so perfect - caring, sweet, affable, loving, gentle, well spoken, dignified, refined, activists for human rights and every other good cause, ethical/pious and generous. Even this topic brings up so much hurt I would rather not feel because my heart then goes into self-preservation mode and rejects Nigeria 'in toto'.
Nevertheless, one can't expect as much respectful and respectable behaviour from classes who have been living in the injustice of extreme stratification their entire lives. The traumas of lived experiences in a dog-eat-dog reality affect people's humanity. But one does expect some decency, humanity and honesty from those who have been enjoying special privileges for decades. And yet, because they are propped up like mini-gods, they can be even more ruthless when they don't get their way.
Those abused and made to face the merciless, vengeful whims of wealthier classes often keep quiet out of fear of what might happen to them if they talk.
A key to lifelong learning is to see everyone you meet as a potential teacher.
No one has a monopoly on wisdom. Each interaction is a chance to question old assumptions and gain new perspectives.
Collecting lessons from others is the fastest way to fill gaps in your experience.
This is ABDULLAHI. He's an AC/FRIDGE Engineer!
I gave him 12K to buy COMPRESSOR and fix in my AC, He took the AC for repair, fixed it, returned it with my 12K and told me that the compressor was okay, but just a minor relay problem which he said was 500 naira.
