I've got to check evidence of (a) unlawful detention of demonstrators, (b) maltreatment of detainees, (c) reported instances of torture, (d) enforced disappearances, and violations of the right (e) to be promptly presented before a judicial authority, (f) to legal counsel of one's choosing, (g) to be apprised of the grounds for one's detention, and (h) the immediate obligation to notify a detainee's kin of their arrest. Marat, an internationally recognized marathon runner, participated as an independent candidate for Parliament in Kazakhstan during the most recent elections in March 2023.
