WHAT HAVE THE PALESTINIANS EVER DONE FOR CONGO?
"Many people do not know the P*lestinians help the Congo movement," explained Kambale Musavuli, Lead Policy Analyst at the Centre for Research on the Congo-Kinshasa.
During a discussion with Sovereign Media's Ahmed Kaballo, Musavuli detailed the historic solidarity connecting the Democratic Republic of Congo and P*lestine.
"We are both exploited by the same system," Musavuli said, as he challenged the superficial online framing that often pits these movements against each other.
The Congolese activist highlighted instances where P*lestinian activists have consistently supported Congolese liberation efforts long before mainstream social media trends emerged.
Alongside noting instances where P*lestinian students at Birzeit University in the occupied West Bank organised Congo Week, he also cited a 2011 protest organised by P*lestinians in New York in front of the home of Peter Grossman, the co-founder of a vulture fund widely described as "predatory" named FG Hemisphere.
At the time, Grossman's firm was reported to have illegally purchased a $3 million debt - originally a loan from Yugoslavia to Zaire.
As Musavuli noted, neither Yugoslavia nor Zaire existed by 2011, but that did not stop FG Hemisphere from "going to many international courts to try to seize Congo's properties, business operations," in an attempt to get over $100 million from the Congolese government.
In addition, Musavuli credited Palestinians for sharing with him the story of Isr*eli billionaire Dan Gertler - whose wealth derived from mineral and diamond extraction in the DRC also flowed into companies connected to the construction of the wall in P*lestine.
Pointing out that the US government simultaneously backs Isr*el's aggression against Palestinians and Rwanda and Uganda's aggression against the DRC, Musavuli called for solidarity.
"We are fighting the same beast," he said.
Mumia Abu-Jamal sent a message about his actual feelings about the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran. He wrote it on two paper plates. It is more eloquent than the Guardian letter, whose right to put his name down needs to be questioned. Who signed for Mumia?
A transcription of the text on the plates:
‘My young friends,
Iran is showing the world (especially the 3rd world) how to fight against the Empire. Their drones are rewriting the rules of war. And countries across the Global South are studying this phase of the war for that use!
They remind me of Vietnam poor country that whipped the most powerful army on earth... That's where we are today.
Love...
Mumia’
CLAIM YOUR AFRICAN IDENTITY
For the subjugation of Africa to succeed, imperialists had to redefine what it meant to be African. Europeans erased knowledge of the continent’s history, denying generations the opportunity to learn about the great civilisations that flourished from the Mali Empire in West Africa to the Kilwa Sultanate on the East African coast and south to the Kingdom of Great Zimbabwe.
On what would have been Marcus Garvey’s 139th birthday, we look back at what he meant when he said that Africans must reclaim their Africanness. In this clip, renowned Pan-African psychologist Amos Wilson (1941–1995) discusses an African-centred school in the US bearing Garvey’s name, where he said five-year-old kindergarten students were reading material intended for 11-year-olds.
Garvey, who deeply influenced Wilson, died in London on 10 June 1940 at the age of 52 after suffering multiple strokes. He became one of the most influential Pan-Africanists in history, inspiring leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah (1909–1972) and Malcolm X (1925–1965), whose parents were Garveyites.
Garvey (1887–1940) was a political activist, publisher, journalist and orator. He founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL), a Pan-Africanist organisation that claimed millions of members and established branches worldwide. His dedication to African liberation and Black self-determination during the Jim Crow era made him a target of the US government. J Edgar Hoover, then an official within the Bureau of Investigation, the precursor to the FBI, sought to destroy Garvey’s mass movement and recruited an undercover agent to infiltrate the UNIA-ACL.
Garvey was later convicted of mail fraud in a controversial case connected to the Black Star Line, his Black-owned shipping company intended to connect African people and commerce across the diaspora. He was imprisoned and ultimately deported from the US, severely weakening both the company and his movement. More than a century after his conviction, President Joe Biden posthumously pardoned Garvey in January 2025, following decades of campaigning by his family and supporters to clear his name.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
Imam Jamil Abdullah al-Amin (former known as H. Rap Brown) has gone home after spending 82 years in this world. May Allah reward him for his courage and commitment to the liberation of oppressed people.
Right now, I’m thinking about something he said surrounding responsibility, parenthood, and being an educator. Al-Amin said that:
The first responsibility of the Muslim is as teacher. That is his job, to teach. His first school, his first classroom is within the household. His first student is himself. He masters himself and then he begins to convey the knowledge that he has acquired to the family. The people who are closest to him.
Too often do we think about the revolutionary as someone that is fighting the outside, while forgetting the revolutionary struggle within the self and one’s own home. To truly be a liberator you have to be consciously committed to being an educator.
Given that I pointed out that the US tariff assault on China is because China has avoided the dependent development trap and has also worked to develop consumer bases in Africa and the Caribbean —typical anti-China propaganda have been levied, best summarized as:
One month into his term, the Donald Trump admin launched airstrikes in Somalia, continuing the U.S. war on Africa. The U.S. and its allies have turned Somalia into a perpetual warzone and a military testing ground for AFRICOM’s latest weapons and drone technology.
Last night, President Trump named what many of us have known for some time – the intentions of the United States to complete the State of Israel’s final solution by announcing his plans to resettle Gazans and assume U.S. control and ownership of the Gaza Strip, Palestine. 🧵
