This is not an award show problem this is a twitch / streamer demographic problem. In the top 100 streamers of this year only 2 are women. I do not know everyone’s sexuality to tell you how many are gay but I fear it’s less.

However this problem is quite literally why the sapphire award was created. This is the male to female ratio of the award show from every year. This year it’s 2.94. Of course the dream is 1:1 but since it’s fan voted even seeing progress like being under the 3:1 range feels like a win.

Luckily there ARE award shows that do a great job at covering these categories. The Gameher awards and the Gayming Awards I believe are to popular ones. Someday if I have the bandwidth I would love to do a separate show that purely focuses on this. Maybe called the sapphire awards but sadly that is not near on my horizon.

However for now I like to focus on the progress being made in the overall demographic of the show. We do have more women nominated than past years and we do have more queer people. That’s a fucking win in my book but there’s always room for more.

There is such a loser epidemic in the gaming/gaming creator space man. Grown ass adults just unable to handle pride flags or women they don't think are hot (or just women in general) or literally anything. They get upset over shit that doesn't matter and when its shit that does matter; suddenly everyone is performative. They want to kill game devs because they pass around a woman's day photo and say thats the reason why their games suck; but let you talk about a game like Hood warfare and then its "not that deep" "it's just a game" "you're being too sensitive" "who cares, as long as the game is fun".
