If I wanted my first choice to win, I'd be pissed my third choice won because everyone was hedging with Approval/STAR. I want my vote to only count for my first choice until it's unviable, and no sooner.

It allows good candidates to overcome electability or vote-splitting arguments while Approval almost ensures bland, establishment wins.

It dilutes my vote and makes it more likely for my runner-up choices to get more traction than my first choice.
