Stand beside every QR code in India and explain that merchant isn't allowed to recover it from customer?

One shop will demand 10, another 15, someone will simply say “cash do.”

And most customers will quietly pay because nobody is going to waste 20 minutes fighting over ₹10 while buying medicines or groceries.

This is the problem with making policies while completely disconnected from ground reality.

Nirmala Aunty can control what Finance Ministry writes on paper.

She cannot control what the shopkeeper says at the counter.

And ordinary people will once again pay for that stupidity.

I have a suggestion:

Instead of charging MDR on UPI payments, UPI apps could show ads after a payment is completed.

That way, they can earn revenue from ads and recover the costs, while UPI can remain free for users.

In 2021, I used to buy vegetables worth 150 and they would easily last 3 days.

In 2026, the same 3-day vegetable shopping costs me 547.

150 → 547 in just 5 years.

That's a 265% increase.
