One of the biggest skills you should learn in SEO is communicating value and it’s a skill a lot within the industry lack.
Your client isn’t going to be able to go to their manager for long with a one liner report saying:
❌ Traffics up 10%
❌ We rank for 5 more keyword in the top 100
❌ We rank number one for hot cross buns
They just want to know that :
✅ SEO’s contributed to an additional 500k in revenue this year
✅ Our Organic links got us featured in top tier publications
✅ Organic revenue is up year or year
Focus on communicating value not vanity metrics.
In my first 2 years in SEO I was overthinking and getting spots.
Keyword density. Anchor text ratios. Second tier. Link wheels. Link pyramids. Outreach tools. Page rank. Which links work best? Etc.
I drove myself mad.
Until one day…
I simplified everything.
I became an SEO minimalist.
It gave me clarity, to focus on the stuff that moves the needle and stop f*cking about.
1. Creating content the audience is searching for. Keyword research tools are good sanity check, but you or your clients already know the topics. Just serve them. Interlink them.
2. Building a handful of links per month to the site. Homepage and blogs, few to product pages. Guest posts, link insertions. With more budget, haro and digital or, Again, don’t overthink it.
3. Building brand foundations holistically. Getting those early press releases, niche directories, supplier links. Don’t stop at SEO. Build a brand, social, real world partnerships.
If you’re overwhelmed, try simplifying.
