@rtraustin_ I don’t think anyone had close game on their bingo card. Watching our secondary get torched was hard. Good growing game for Keelon. Crowell/Brown combo was great to see
First half Alabama review:
- Russell shows his talent and inexperience. He was a lot more decisive in his backup reps last year. He’ll improve.
- Bama’s OL is much more physical but clearly new. Protection calls have been an issue magnifying things (free rushers may be a QB issue on bad protection calls).
- Bama’s RBs, as advertised, are much much better. They turned several negative plays into positives. Crowell had no business scoring on his TD but turned the corner on a DB. Their young backs are special.
- Defensively, Bama looks notably improved, as weird as that is to say. This does look far more like a stereotypical Bama defense.
- Alabama is much bigger and more physical at DL due to transfers and it frequently provides dividends. Last year’s starters are now their depth.
- Alabama looks much better at linebacker. Just considerably more decisive and violent attacking the ball carrier.
This has been an extremely sloppy 1H by Bama, but they have a huge lead (vs what may be one of the better G6 teams) because, to my eyes, this may be a considerably more talented and higher upside team than they were in 2025.

Following meetings with the Presidents, Chancellors, and Athletics Directors of the Southeastern Conference, the SEC will enforce the following policy:
Would expect Kalen DeBoer to name Keelon Russell the starter by early next week. He’s been excellent this preseason and gives Alabama more playmaking ability at the QB position. Throws a really nice ball.
