🤯 We tested 50 participants to investigate phase-locked perceptual modulations after motor actions: the results are surprising!
⚡ Different from previous studies, we found these modulations ONLY emerge during specific internal states: when attention wanes or decision criteria are high. This reveals that our internal states shape action-perception coupling.
🧠 Interestingly, these effects are approximated by a 17Hz rhythm in the frequency domain—contrary to the previously reported theta-band. This aligns with possible roles of beta oscillations in linking fronto-parietal regions (like FEF) and sensory processing.
📊 We used highly sensitive and robust methods (single-trial spectral analysis & random-effects statistics), with a substantially larger sample size than typical studies.
🕊 We hope this can bring fresh insights to reconcile conflicting findings in a field undergoing major revision—showing how brain state might explain when perceptual rhythms emerge, and emphasizing methodological rigor.
